Do you norverners play cribbage?  There's still a league in Swindon, well its the Stratton League, but takes Swindon sides.

The traditional mid week menu of crib, darts, skittles perhaps now augmented by a quiz night, still just about hangs on in a few treasured CIU places in Swindon and District.

Not even sure what cribbage is to be honest, we still do darts and pub quizzes, however never seen skittles up here, again only ever seen that down south (we used to play in Stonesfield) and in Wales.

You say northern, but the only time I have ever seen a bar billiards table in a pub is in Witney, we used to play a hell of a lot although in the years before the internet never actually knew the rules.

There used to be a Bar Billiards table in the working men’s club in Bromham, mainly because it took up a lot less room than pool or snooker I guess.

We also used to play cribbage (and Bastard brag) , not in a league though, just for money Smiley

Born and raised in the Northwest, first time I ever saw bar billiards was in a pub in Oxford. Since then, seen a few in Oxon and Berks, still not seen a single one up north, either side of the Pennines.

I have subsequently been informed by a friend who still lives up there that the pub we used to frequent in Newcastle, immediately next door to St James Park does now have the benefit of a Bar Billiards table....

It is played in other counties, and at times even in Wilts.

The Swindon William Morris gives an interesting account of sports in Swindon, before and just about the time that Brunel lobbed his sarnie.
