Head to the centre, find a beer garden and be happy.

You can't go wrong here either: http://www.hofbraeuhaus.de/en/index_en.html  You'll get better beer elsewhere but it's still a great fun place to be.

The central area is quite nice, some lovely buildings and the beer gardens are great fun in terms of meeting people as well, very sociable affairs.

I'm sure there are more things to do than that though, maybe MunichRed and chime in?

Hofbrauhaus is more of a thing to do in a group. Picture a great big school hall with foldable wooden tables and benches (or is it chairs?). Buffet style sausage, sauerkraut and mash, with entertainment of an ompah band, someone playing cow bells and someone yodelling. Then ladies with platted hair and massive biceps in traditional dress pushing out their boobs carrying lots of steins of beer while on the stage you are encouranged by the compare who shout 'Ein, zwei, drei - Drink!'

Well that's what I remember.

Yep, wasn't suggesting it was a great cultural education like visiting a museum!

The smaller beer gardens that are privately owner breweries are good though.

Thanks guys, just took a little walk around the area im staying last night and stumbled accross the Augustiner Bräustuben which looks like one of those massive beer halls with rows and rows of tables, people eating bratwursts and drinking steins of beer.

It turns out that this week they have a festival which they call "Little Octoberfest" which is on the site of Octoberfest. I might pay it a visit tonight.

Just come across this thread. It's the Frühlimgsfest, Spring Fest. Hope you had a great time. Happy to meet up for lunch or a beer today (Thursday) or Friday if you're still here in Munich.

Try and make time to see the river surfing in Prinz Regenten Strasse, better still go on a Mikes Bike tour. In four hours you see lots of interesting stuff including the surfing, and you'll have 15 or so new mates to spend an hour with in the English Garden Biergarten.
