2nd in this list of worst places to live in, so I feel your comment could still be justified.

Very disappointed that Croydon only comes in a lowly 4th.

Still think Luton is the worse.
Bradford was bad in the 80's and before but looks a little more tidy now.
Luton is just awful.

Middlesbrough (smog monsters) is rough as fuck.
Shit hole, but a shit hole with at least some character, a dump still Smiley

I've been to many places oft-described as 'shitholes' as the two that have truly fit the bill have been Middlesbrough and Gillingham, Kent.

Luton would be top, but running it a close second would be Walthamstow, I've had the displeasure of working in most of London's hell holes, but that's the worst I've spent a prolonged time in.

You'll enjoy this then.

Not being funny, but Walthamstow is utopia compared with the top ten.  Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of shitty areas left in London, but only Barking should feature in the top 10.  Now that really is like walking into 1970's London. Only place in London where the word gentrification is unspoken, which is many ways isn’t a bad thing.  Like someone said about Middlesbrough, at least it has character, unlike souless southern nothing towns such as Stevenage, Bracknell etc.

Although not a settlement in itself, my least favourite area is anywhere east of the M25 on the estuary (north or south).  Fucking horrible place

This is a great read:
