Perhaps this is the right time to mention I've been considering switching to wine instead of beer?

Yes, it is probably the right time. Wine is fine but you are definitely softening. Just stay away from the lady boys, ok?

My mrs can't have gluten either. The bread you make in a bread maker goes hard quick so make sure you have a bag or something to keep it in.

The bread form a bread maker doesn't last. Much better to make your own - I just stick all the infredients in a mixer with a dough hook, prove it in the airing cupboard and bake in the oven. Once you get in the routine it takes no time at all.

I also have an allotment.....

I have a breadmaker, an allotment, two whippets, a boat for fishing, a freezer full of mackerel/pollock & a sea view if I lean out of my upstairs window at a precarious angle - life is good  Too Cool

Your life sounds like hell.  If I were you, I'd move to Swindon pronto and spend your evenings on an internet forum conversing with a disparate group of middle-aged Scilly Isles enthusiasts.
