It's not the glory, really.

I know the bloke was a car crash but if he could get my missus interested in going to the CG he's got something.

I Just felt a part of the whole insane project

Funnily enough, I felt quite alienated from it all - it just never sat right with me and I couldn't completely enjoy it without thinking that it was going to go tits up

Yeah, I know what you mean - but 2 seasons of Paolo (well, one and a half) was unmissable for fans of a club such as ours.

Universally hated by all opposing fans (or jealous!).

Unfortunately, the future looks a little grey at the moment

this is the truth of it. Im already missing the glory days.
Although you are very brave saying so.

As soon as you take the make up off the glory days, you reveal an ugly truth.

Yeah it was fun, I won't deny it, but it came at a cost.

Yes, the glory days of buying a league two title with money we didn't have. How I long for such glory

While there were some ugly truths that came out once il duce fucked off you can't really say we bought it with money we didn't have. All spending that season was sanctioned by the then owner, who definitely did have the money. Unsustainable? Absolutely. Unless the owner was up for spunking even more of his hard earned.
I'm becoming increasly frustrated,  not by the club, by the fans. We want a successful club and quality players? We want to challenge for promotion? We want a self sufficient club? The only way to get this (unless we find another mug with millions to waste) is to increase attendance and have some patience. Unfortunately Swindon in general couldn't give a fuck about the club (unless we're playing at Wembley, or have a glamorous cup tie) and too many of those that do go are too quick to find excuses not to.
The town has the club it deserves.

I think you are being a little unfair there.

What you are describing is the vast majority of English league clubs.

Even our scummy friends who you have to acknowledge have a decent fan base for their size are seeing reduced attendances despite challenging at the top of L2

The cycle of a lower league club is almost always seasons of middling dross with the odd year or 2 in the sunshine.

Nobody can deny that in our recent history - say, 25-30 years - we have had more than our fair share of sunny days.

Now is the time to buckle down and prepare for mediocrity and support your club

I agree with everything in your post, apart from the first sentence.
