How anyone can defend his actions is beyond me.

What he did was wrong and illegal, he's lucky the club didn't report it to the Police and press charges.

If he wanted items back he should have asked the club for them or sent a friend to pick them up. Or he could have done what everyone else does when they're about to quit their job and are likely to be escorted from the premises - get everything you want the day before.

Obviously it's not the crime of the century and there is a funny side to it, but that doesn't make it right.

Bloody hell Johnny. To be honest, this shouldn't even have made the papers let alone going to the police. Obviously it did, it's Paolo afterall. Unless he's taken anything that wasn't his, then he's used his key to get in. Not even sure there's a crime here. If, as he claimed in his statement, there's been no response to his letter of resignation then legally he's probably still employed by the club anyway.

He didn't want to face the old/new owner, is pissed off, and cam back and took a few things. Thats all.

So he's a chihuahua now?

That's a weak argument at best. He'd resigned, shouldn't have had the keys, shouldn't have let himself in, shouldn't have damaged anything - if he wasn't doing anything wrong why did he wait until 1am to do it? People are making excuses for him, if it was any other manager they'd be ripping him to shreds. Though I agree about the papers, not sure it was really a newsworthy story.

As a manager you need respect, to lead by example and be professional. Doing this just makes him an even bigger joke.

With no obvious damage done from the outside and no police involved, how did the Mail and Sun get hold of this event? Especially as the Advertiser with an inside source only picked up on the story once it was leaked?

It's possible the Adver did have the story and chose not to run it until others picked it up, or were requested not to.

I think we can all agree that the person that comes out of this worst is the Sports Editor of the Daily Fail who thinks that "man retrieving personal effects from office" is a back page story on a night when four Prem sides are competing in Europe.

Anyone on TEF care to admit to funding that disgraceful arsewipe of a paper?

If it's not really a news story then presumably no crime has been committed. Had the club reported him the next day (when they realised presumably) i'm pretty sure the old bill would have laughed in their faces.

A high profile manager retrieving personal items at 1am in the morning is hardly a non story as is evident by the number of pages thus far on this thread.

I guess it's news if you think it's news.

In fairness we're Swindon fans though so are bound to debate it. I'd say it was a story - to the adver! If it wasn't Paolo then there is no way this would have made the back page spread of a national newspaper. The fact that it did is pretty pathetic IMO.

@jonny  Do you believe the story fully? Do you not think The Mail may have dressed it up a bit?

I just read the story as Paolo letting himself in to the club at 1am and taking some personal possessions.

Though I reckon he was pissed up. This is the sort of thing that is a really good idea at 1am when you're drunk, but not such a good idea when you wake up in the morning and the previous nights events start coming back to you. We've all been there.
