If it was the first team playing Liverpool it would automatically be "one of the most famous moments in Swindon's history", regardless of the result. Cheap shot by a manager who may have disapproved that the articles in the past two weeks haven't focused on him.

We lost to probably the best youth team in the country. Di Canio needs to get some fucking perspective. The youth players who have come into the first team have all performed exceptionally. Nathan Thompson has probably been man of the match 90% of the games he's played in, our youth team is probably in the healthiest position it's ever been in, and in some of the safest hands with Bodin, who has stuck with Swindon through being overlooked for the managers job, through the transfer of his son away from the club, and through these sorts of surreptitious snipes he has to deal with from his manager.
He was here before Di Canio and he'll very likely be here after Di Canio as well.
(no I am not Paul Bodin)

What's he waffling on about now? This paragraph sums it up. Surely he wasn't expecting our lads to compete on the below basis?
"Town were knocked out at the third-round stage of the competition by a Reds team whose star player, Jordon Ibe, was reported to have cost Liverpool around four times more than the total amount of money sunk into the Swindon academy to bring it up to Elite Player Performance Plan standards earlier this year."

Bodin was under 16 manager at the time paul,as for what message it sends i would say seeing the likes of storey oakley the thompsons and bedwell involved gives them hope
Yeah you're right, someone else just pointed out to me Dave Byrne was head of youth back then before he took up asst mgr and then the more wide-ranging Head of Development role. But I don't think anyone was suggesting Bodin brought Morrison in other than the journo who wrote the piece, he's always been credited as one of Budgie's hasn't he? Apologies if I seemed to play down DB's role, always spoken up for the excellent work he did here, you know that. On the broader point, I wish they'd both STFU (Di Canio and Bodin), they've clearly got a beef with each other, fine, sort it out behind closed doors (although there'll only be one winner in that). Stop washing the dirty linen in public because it sure as shit isn't doing either the club or the youth team any favours. Time for Patey to earn that salary they changed the rules for and bang some bloody heads together.

I don't understand why the two of them have issues with one another, the youth system can't cost a great deal and has produced some half-decent players in recent years and has potential to pay for itself if any of Henshall, Stephens et al get at least one senior game...
Comments like this seem entirely unnecessary.

It's clearly a misprint, and Paolo is actually fearful of his brief AC Milan team-mate Paolo futre

I don't understand why the two of them have issues with one another, I don't think PDC approved of Bodin Snr's handling of his sons transfer to Torquay.

Missed this until this evening and only stumbled across it as the kebab shop had the adver in there and I took a read. Anyway,if Di canio is comparing us to Liverpool then we are going to fall well short. Our youths were embarrassed by them the other night. The gulf in class was massive and to be honest dont think the town lads did themselves any favours. That said we do as well as other clubs in our position. Di Canio would be fucked off wherever he was manager. He shunned Bodin from day 1 and has nothing to do with the youth set up. It was nearly scrapped last summer as he has no time for it. Never has.

Its odd though that PDC made noises about understanding that youth is important. Maybe that wasn't his true thoughts.

Youth in general yes i'm sure, but its clear he doesn't rate our set up. Known this since he arrived. If he wants to change it or better it under his orders and within the budget then he should do so. Think his attitude is to do away with it rather than change it though. The board kept it going not the manager.

I think that you are right the board seem quite committed to the youth set up, probably because we have sold a few players recently and made some money out of it, I think that PDC doesn't understand that fans like to see youth teamers coming through rather than loan players, yes fans are fickle and demand results, but with all things being equal they will give a bit more slack to a youth teamer who is just starting out.

I can't find the tossing link. My memory may be fading but I'm sure I read or heard him say that he understood youth was important for this club, not just youth in general.
But yes he has continually swiped at it. Which is a shame. He may have some constructive and valid points if he approached it differently. But Paolo isn't, erm, normal like that..

@redsheldon Pook-Macklin booed at the county ground. Alot of our fans are cocks.
@batch. The club were ready to offer youth contracts last year to some lads but had to wait as they didn't know if they could offer anything as the future of the youth set up was in doubt. In the end the youth set up being guaranteed for this season meant contracts were then offered. I know one lad who quit here due to the manager not watching the youths and is now at another pro club.

Much as I adore Paolo, slagging off the efforts of a club legend, in a sniping way, pisses me off

anything he says about our youth set up i ignore as i know quality does come out of it Nathan Thompson is a prime example, with the new scholars i feel many do have potential to be offered contracts when their time comes, salvyn kisitu or however you spell it and connor waldon lead they way for that, aaron oakley aswell
