People. That was insane. I feel I have a lot that needs saying about that ride - but for now I'll just say that I'm really glad that I'm mad. I was convinced that I'd be overtaken by at least five riders and was only trying to get to the first intermediate checkpoint as first rider - and not to be overtaken by my 12 minute man #ChristopherJuulJensen (and heaven forbid, my 18.30minute man @brentbookwalter). First time check and I was still first (on the road obviously!!). Second time check. Still first. Third time check. Still first.
Only after 40km was I overtaken by one rider. ONE. Which meant that I could sit on the second chair in the hot seat for a minute once I rolled across the line of the 54km.
When ever people brought up the hot seat yesterday I wrote them off as being utterly mad! Turns out they weren't. I am. I'm still in shock. https://www.instagram.com/p/BI7y7nCgYVC/ |

On Friday afternoon I went to Stadium Plastic (spit) to attend Trek World where Trek were showing their full current bike range (perk of being a part time sales droid at a local bike shop). Lots of lovely bling and proper bike porn but, best of all, I managed to spend half an hour or so engaged in a one on one chinwag with motherfucking Jens Voigt! We had a chat about the current top end road bike range and what would be his choice if he could only have one bike (he chose the Madone over the Domane and Emonda) and let on how he used to take the piss out of Fabian Cancellara for prefering the Domane-"Cancellara is an old fart who needs suspension and I used to tell him!" Fuck knows how but we then got onto Brexit and politics  As for pro cycling, he misses the fitness element- being at the peak of his power but otherwise, doesn't miss being in the peleton too much. he is enjoying being in the industry from the other side of the racing scene. I told him he should be pushing ITV4 for a full time gig during the TdF. The man is a legend  I listened to some extracts of Chris Boardmans autobiography, I didn't realise then when he was at the end of his career and Jens at the start they roomed together, he has some very funny stories about the madness of Jens! |

To avoid getting bored/deafened on the turbo I listen to the TCP as mentioned, as well as: - the DC Rainmaker podcast (sports tech and a light bit of training info) - CyclingTips podcast - a lot less frequent, but a lot less sponsored than other podcasts the peloton brief/real talent with phil gaimon - he talks to people about cycling and is funny - Ask a cycling coach (trainerroad) - lots of people ask the same questions and they answer them without getting angry. occasionally there's a gem asked and it makes it worthwhile |

Has anyone on here ever done Ride London, I have been offered a charity place for a £10 plus a fund raising target of £400 and am tempted, however the logistics on the day look like a ball ache, starting deep in the east end and then finishing in the centre, plus having to get in and out of London?
Any ideas welcome.

I haven't but I know someone that did it this year. They stayed at a travel lodge about 5 miles from the start and rode in. I can get details of the hotel if you want? |
