The missus wants some ideas as what to buy me for my impending birthday. I have most things that I want and I am a nightmare to buy for (apparently  Huh?). I wouldn't mind some kind of electronic gadget, maybe for reminders and keeping notes (something like an electronic diary?). Also, what's a kindle like to own? I am the wrong side of 30 (well, in truth I'm the wrong side of 40 Smiley ).

Thanks for any advice (as long as it doesn't include - stairlifts, pipe and slippers etc etc.)

Butt Plug ?

Seriously - Kindle's are ace, but I am finding myself reading more and more on a tablet

But if you are likely to read outside in the sun (if it ever shows its face) go for a Kindle

With the popularity of smartphones/tablets I'm surprised that manufacturers make electronic diaries anymore.

Yep. As a kid I would have had a huge list of wants - as I get older I don't want anything, but I don't want to say "just stick some cash in an envelope".

The kindle sounds interesting; the electronic diary idea would help my increasing memory lapses Smiley

Yeah I'd go for the Kindle Touch.

I hear the Kindle Fire is coming out in the UK soon though.. For not much more.
I heard Amazon lose around a tenner for each Kindle Fire sale?

It's actually a very well-known FACT, twat.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/11/16/142310104/why-amazon-loses-money-on-every-kindle-fire

They rely on profits from title sales on Amazon, than the device themselves.
It's like printers earning money from ink cartridges.
And games consoles earning money from their game titles.

Sheesh.

We got my granddad one of those stairlifts, but he hated it and we had to take it back.   It just drove him up the wall.
