Off for a weekender in Rotterdam next weekend as some of our party are doing the Rotterdam marathon. We have managed to get tickets to the Rotterdam 'derby' against Excelcior and we'll be spending Saturday and Sunday night in town.

Anyone on here been? Any recommendations? I've heard Rotterdam is a bit rough, is it like the Dutch Portsmouth?

I believe so. Couldn't we ask the Dutch kiddie who was on about the Rovers game?

edit: I haven't been to Holland since 1979 (as a kid, obviously), so I can't comment on what it's like now Smiley

I have been on a football weekender in Eindhoven which was fun (and the heaters at their ground are a godsend in winter!!) so thought we would try somewhere else in the Netherlands. The Dutch are a pretty cool bunch as well so I am sure it will be decent.

I was going to do the whole 'let's go to Amsterdam for the weekend' thing until I was told that Rotterdam is better.

I've always wanted to watch a Feyenoord game just because their fans look like absolute head cases!

My mother in law is from near Rotterdam and wife's cousin lives there.
Haven't been there for a number of years but as I recall it's a biggish city port and as such more a working town than anything exciting to visit.
Every time we go over now we go to Amsterdam - always lively and fun and get to watch the mighty Ajax

I think if I were to pick between the two it would have to be Amsterdam, just for the Cafés  Huh?
