Getting married on the 21st of April and spent ages trying to figure out the best location for my honeymoon.  In the end decided to head to Phuket in Thailand for three days of crazy drinking and fun and then four nights on Koh Phi Phi.  Any one got any good suggestions for what to do on Phuket, been to Thailand many times in the past but never been there before.

And before any one suggests it I don't think the wife would look too kindly on me banging hookers or the chicks with dicks.

DO NOT HIRE A JET SKI

They are scam artists and try to make people pay huge amounts of money for damage that already existed.

Haven't been there since the tsunami so I expect things have changed quite a lot. Presumably you'll be staying in Patong? The main night strip there is Soi Bangla. You can't miss it really. If you aren't too hungover visit some of the other beaches on Phuket. Nearby Kata and Karon beaches are very nice and often quite empty even during high season.

Phi Phi is stunning. Not much to do but eat, drink, chill on the beach and snorkel/dive.

Yeah Patong it is for us.  I wasn't so sure at first but reading reviews of the place seems pretty nice and enough to do.  I'll avoid the jet ski's, never used one and with most of these touristy places massively overpriced I bet.

Phi Phi is the kind of place where I will probably get there think how beautiful and amazing it looks and after ten minutes get ants in my pants and start getting bored.  I also read that there have been a couple of 'deaths by box jellyfish' in the area so I may just keep to the swimming pool.

I'm not sure what the exchange rate is any more between UK-Thailand but when I went there for the first time back in 2000 it was something like 75 Baht for the pound so everything was dirt cheap, I guess its not so good now.

Exchange rate is about 50 now. Oh, how I pine for those halycon days of 75 baht to the pound.

Patong is your typical coastal tourist town, not as built up as the concrete jungles on Spanish islands though. The beach is quite nice and not too overcrowded for a developed resort.

Box jellyfish encounters do happen in Thailand, but they are by no means common. I did see a banded krait off Phi Phi once, which I am sure will make you feel more comfortable about entering the water.

Oh

And a snorkeling/diving cruise is a must. Fuck the jellyfish, the corals off Phi Phi are amazing

Funnily enough I would love to see a sea snake (so long as it's fang's aren't sticking into my leg).  I used to really freak out my Thai friends by actively looking for snakes when we went up country.

Snorkeling will be cool but i'm usually too worried by sharks, jelly fish etc etc.

The Krait I saw made an appearance when about 50 other people were also in the water. It caused quite a stir.

But Kraits usually aren't very agressive towards humans unless you piss them off.  However, I would probably want to keep my distance

Are you paid in GBP, then?  Just being nosey.  I would have assumed your were being paid in Baht...and that coming back to the UK would then be cheaper?

I can't remember what the exchange rate was when I was in Thailand - just that a 2 course meal with a beer rarely cost more than £4.

I get paid mostly on GBP or USD. That's where my clients are.

Had to google banded krait to see what one was. On reflection, perhaps my enthusiastime and curiosity when I saw one at very close quarters in Fiji was misplaced.

I was going to start a thread of similar nature...

I went to both Phuket and Phi Phi last year. Phuket is great for the nightlife and just generally getting pished. It's not very cultured there so you might as well take it for what it is. Me and my mates spend 4 days drinking, going bowling at the shooping mall and watching a ping pong show which involved 10 goldfish, a budgie and a hamster.

Phi Phi is stunning but like Flashheart says there isn't much to do there. Prices there are double or triple that of anywhere I went to in Thailand. Partly I assume because it's so much nicer and partly because it must be harder to import to there. Anyway spent 3 or days there relaxing, drinking, playing volleyball with some prime American 'dudes' (cunts) and taking in the stunning scenery and I loved it.

I'm getting married myself in August and I'm looking at going to Hawaii for part of my honeymoon. Has anyone been there? and if so any advise as to what island/area to go to and what to do whilst there?
I have a mixed image of Hawaii in my head at the moment. Part of me thinks of the paradise islands that it's portrayed in American films and the other part of me thinks about the crack heads on Dog the Bounty Hunter! Any help would be much appreciated.

I was on Oahu in 2001 and was extremely disappointed as I expected more. I's nice enough and it's Waikiki beach, Honalulu, Pearl harbour etc etc but looking back, I was bored stiff. You could do a lot more, a lot cheaper elsewhere IMO. There are other islands and I've never visited them though.

8 months later I landed in Thailand and Phi Phi, now the stories and the memories from that place are fondly looked back on.

I August this year I'm getting and our honeymoon will be in Mozambique, anyone been there?

Best place in Thailand (or the planet), in my opinion, is Koh Samet.

May be a tad quiet for some but for families it fucking brilliant. Love the place.
