Madejski, has been involved with Reading for 25 years, in that time he's turned them from a small club into a medium sized club....something, so far, beyond Lansdown at the 82ers.

I think most town fans would like the same model as reading happen at swindon.
Always going to be a club hovering around the play offs in the championship.

It's not really a model though, is it.
They got lucky with someone prepared to chuck money at it. A prerequisite for any club lower down to enable progress.
Place looked fucking empty on the televisual machine last night

Yes and no. I think your proper hardcore Town fan, rather likes our shitness and crappy old stadium, in a perverse sort of fashion. Of course, the more transient type of fan, would welcome a ground stuck out on a trading estate, if it meant a slightly higher standard of football. At least for Reading their moved worked....unlike Oxford who left their much loved shithole, for the trading estate model, yet remained crap on the pitch.

In theory it's the best model possible. A loaded owner who pumps money in whilst knobbing Cilla and won't ever screw the club over

Don't think he's knobbing Cilla now - bit musty I'd imagine.
But when these type of owners sell up to, usually, foreign owners their momentum dries up. See Blackburn and Wolves.
When times get tough you won't find them so willing to keep investment up.
Much better to have no money, like us, and stave off relegation with dwindling crowds.

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. Some methods work, some don't. Being bankrolled doesn't guarantee long term success and neither does being well run.

Yup. Lived in the Reading area when it happened. It took him 10 years and a lot of money but they've made it the next level. And Swansea. Where I also used to live. They've also bridged the gap with council help. I live in Swindon now. Nothing. The magic has gone. Besides, Tails is right. Darlington anyone.
