We don't really need either Timlin or Manks in my opinion. Manks is a decent RB for this level but with the wingers we now have we can afford to play Caddis at RB and we have Thompson as back up who has shown he has some potential. With the wage cap it's a sensible choice to let Manks leave even if it's on loan.
Timlin I think again we have enough cover both out wide and in the centre. I certainly wouldn't pick him over Ferry or McCormack and probably at the moment Smith either. And then Risser is our captain so it's a no brainer that he's off. Not sure on Atiku. I get the impression we were shafted by agents with him. He didn't look great when I saw him at Supermarine but I accept it was only a friendly and only 1 game. I think Di Canio just wants him playing games.
As for Benyon well I don't think he'd get a look in here now over Clarke or Magera and from what i've seen he's no better than Connell either.

When did Michael Timlin become indispensable? I swear only 2/3 months ago everyone was bemoaning how he wasn't needed?

I remember on matchday threads how many people on here were getting their knickers in a twist when DW kept bringing Timlin on.
Are these the same people that know are getting their knickers in a twist about him being let go?
Just noticed the thread title is Elliot Benyon, why the fuck are we discussing about Timlin?

Id really prefer it if Thompson was farmed out and not Manks, he was dreadful against Daggers and in my opinion is not ready for first team football. He was a rabbit in the headlights a week ago.

Wages could well be the deciding factor.

Don't mind Thompson. Wouldn't use him at RM though.

These my thoughts. I like Timlin, but he's never looked like a player who would provoke discussion, either positive or negative. He's just a solid, decent and unspectacular professional in my opinion.

Exactly, he goes about his business but sending him out either on loan or permanently isn't going to define our season.

I know football doesn't quite work like this, but surely if Timlin and Amankwaah are good enough for League 1, they'd be great in League 2?!
For all of you saying Timlin was anonymous, don't forget he didn't score a key goal against Shitty...
I suppose I'm just grumpy at the way he's been treated, as I think loyalty is a rare commodity in football these days, and every team needs an anonymous grafter who makes up for their lack of quality with a workmanlike approach to the game.
I'm a bit bemused that di Canio can really know what his best team is at the moment, and with the number of combinations available I'm not sure we'll ever know.
With Benyon (on the books), Kerouche, de Vita, Connell, Magera, Clarke, who's to say what the best partnership is? We don't seem to have stand out first team/reserve options as we often have in the past.

Yeah, last season was so much simpler when we only had to choose between Pericard and Dossevi. Bring back those heady days.

Personally I wouldnt mind seeing Caddis at Left Back instead of Kennedy and give manks a go at Right back.
Controversial? maybe.

Benyon won`t be missed mark my words, panic buy, light weight striker good luck to the boy but he really has to go down as one of DW many mistakes last season...moving on to Timlin...same goes for him...will he be missed and if we are honest the answer is NO. Anyway he hasn`t gone anywhere yet...

Barry and Parkin have got this right. Timlin has always been very honest but limited, like a muppet babies version of Jonathan Douglas. I was surprised to see him survive the summer clearout, so it's no surprise he's off now there's more competition for places. (Especially if we're clearing the payroll to get Magera under the wage cap).

Apparently we're currently 5p under the cap. Last seasons squad must've been paid in diamonds and bullion. Well p(l)aid guys.
