It was always going to happen but this fact makes it no less shocking.
What has made me sit up and think is the way the people effected have responded. Its sad but events like this make me proud to be British. There is something about the British attitude that makes us all stand together in times of need.
A report on the news mentioned a group of buliders runn ing from their site and offering to give blood. This to me sums up the spirit of our people and makes me proud,as does the way the victims and emergency services have acted.
As I type this Galloway is trying to score political points on News Night.Sick sick man!

Agreed.
I'm fairly un-patriotic and at the weekend I got really angry at the attitudes of many British people towards Live8 and poverty in third world countries, but today proved that as a nation we've got a really fucking resilient spirit.
All credit goes out to the men and women from the emergency services, they dealt with it fantastically.
Personally I hope that innocent British muslims aren't caught up in the racial tension which will no doubt soon appear.

My parents were in London today and a lot of my family is from London but all are ok luckily.
For me this is far more significant than the 11th september attacks. I hope there aren't any more attacks.
OST is from near Braintree in Essex I think.

I'm pretty thick-skinned, as you may have assumed, but stories such as the builders you mentioned, brought tears to my eyes. I work in Gatwick airport so I was particularly affected in that many people were scared of flying, but it really was admirable of the efforts I heard people going to, and the resiliance of the British people.
My instant reaction, ashamedly, was to rid England of fundamental religion, whether it be Muslim, Hinduism or Christianity, as I think it is ultimately a force which drives people to extreme acts (personal opinion - not a fan of religion). Now, I am just relieved at a "relatively" low death toll, and hope the ****s responsible are satisfied at their efforts and won't go to more extreme lengths.

I quite agree YR. I know what I'm about to say pales into insignificance compared to today, but I got a sense of that at Glastonbury this year - there were people who woke up floating on their air beds, did they let it beat them, of course they didn't. It's amazing how thick skinned we humans, and especially us Brits can be when we're dealt a dudd hand.
I also gave the victims of the Tsunami a thought while trudging through the water - it really made me imagine how truly awful it must have been for those who survived it. We were slightly put out on the whole, but one of my mates thought it was the end of the world - when I pointed out the tsunami he, having travelled aroung Thailand etc, felt absolutely ashamed with himself.
As I say Glasto really does pale compared to this, but all the same us Brits will never let anything beat us.

I know it sounds terrible but I can't help thinking how much worse it might have been.
The loss of life, injuries and worry it has caused is shocking no doubt about it but it could have been so much worse given the circumstances.
The event should be marked and remembered respectfully but not dwelled upon. If the events of yesterday are turned into a crazed media paranoia circus it will only play into the hands of those responsible and encourage them.
In great British fashion we should pay our respects, stick two fingers up and crack on with it.

Cowards, the lot of them. They think the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were unfair because we stayed at a distance as much as possible, yet they pick on innocent people and think it is honorable. And attacking London, there is a very good chance they killed muslims as well, same as the 2/300 who died September 11th.
You will find justice, and you'll get no virgins I promise you. If we are on this earth for a reason, then it is not killing. Their interpretation of Islam is the most backwards it has been in it's existance, my only consolation in this is that I know they're wrong. You will find only torment.
