We were relegated to the bottom division for the first time.
Does anyone know why the season ran so late?

It used to be the norm running to the mid of May, but the play-offs arrived and everything had to be brought forward.

I'm still not fully comfortable the season starts at the beginning of August rather than the end

I'm almost as old as Methuselah and to be honest, the latest I remember it starting is around the 19th or 20th Aug.

Don't be SY because it's bollocks, the season has always been a bit flexible round the edges..world cups...weather...etc For example the 62/63 bad weather season didn't end til 18th May, whereas 63/64 finished on April 25th, then 65/66 season didn't finish til 28th May. 69/70 a WC year began Aug 9th and finished April 20th.

My mind is clearly playing tricks on me, as it was usually around the 20th. Still not the 8th though:)
Mind you, I found these exceptions: 1990-91 25 AUG 1988-89 29 AUG

Watching that film wasn't much different to this season - Bert and Jim were the real stars for me!

Sorry I was 16 and on a working holiday in Canada - too busy getting drunk and laid to worry about it
Oh how times have changed - I'm now in the US and drunk but am now too old to get the chance of getting laid!

Thats the first I've seen of the game. Although I was in Newport I was unable to see the game due to being in a police cell with 50 other Town fans. Got banned for life afterwards but I think they've forgotten by now. That was one drunken night.

I was at the game at Newport as a 16 year old, horrible day with a horrible result, I remember it well, so much trouble that day.

After driving back from Newport it was either jumping off the bridge at Membury service station or to go overseas.. The next day was the day I decided to move to New Zealand.

I went to newport the other week, i dont think theyve tidied the town up yet after all that aggro Fucking shithole The trouble was that we got relegated! loads of the older trouble makers came out for local games back then. Oh and the fact that all Welsh clubs had a lot of aggro in those days, Newport didn't like us much and we didn't like them much, simple really!
