Not playing Austin would not make any sense. What the club are saying is you signed a contract with STFC we will sell that contract when we get a decent offer, & not before. That offer is depndent upon you playing well.
Not playing him is like the club are throwing there toys out of the pram & saying we're upset that you asked us to sell your contract, therefore you aren't going to play for us or anyone else. - That's immature
The other things it would do is give Wovers a better chance on gaining 6 points on us, when we are saying the club is bigger than the player. If at the end of the season we get relegated because we "taught CA a lesson" vs Wovers I would be gutted.

I will support him while he wears the shirt.

If he gets too much of a barracking he will play poorly & this could continue. We may end up keeping him, cos he has lost his goal scoring touch which would be a bit pointless as we already have enough strikers who can't score

How can you say for sure he'll be half arsed. He went public and still no bid has come in. Surely now is the time he'll be putting in his best efforts to showcase what he can do.

Charlie Austin has over the time he has been with us put in, by a very long way, the most effort than any of our up front players, combined with his natural talent he has been an unstoppable force in division one. Other posters have mentioned Fabregas and Torres as want a way players that were not dropped, it is interesting to see that they are still very much key players for their respective teams and have NOT left. If there is any player that personifies desire in our team for this season it is Charlie Austin, should he be dropped for Bristol NO WAY.. It is interesting how people quickly forget his massive contribution this season and last, and seem to think that the Juventus Hitman will come good. Remember an Austin offday such as Yeovil still was 100%.

Thank you - a voice of reason in the forest......

Danny had said publicly that Charlie has been immature - which is a euphemism for the things he's probably calling him in his office right now.
Gasheads reading this (and I work in Bristol and know a couple of them who have cut and pasted a lot of this site to their mates) will be well aware of the mess STFC are in right now, on the pitch (although they only had to watch a tape of the yeovil game to know that) and off it. They will be wetting themselves at the prospect of whupping our asses in that shithole of a ground for a second season running, and making the absolute most of it.

If there are boos from the away end the minute Charlie first touches the ball, we know what will happen - Charlie will react (as he is indeed it would seem a pretty immature chap - his actions off the field, if rumours about him are even 10% true - show that) and the Gas will be lapping it up and ramming it down his, and our, throats. From then on we are on a loser. If he is dropped, that will not be good - paying him to stay at home when he is our best chance of coming back down the M4 with anything, is a silly move and I dont beleive Wilson will make it - just because I dont agree with Wilson's beleif that Pericard has anything to offer the team, doesnt mean I cant agree with him and Fitton that Charlie is still a Swndon player, and whatever his motivations for playing to the best of his ability, thats fine by me - when he isnt a Swindon player, I will boo him - right now he is, so I wont boo him. Just like I actually do not boo Pericard during a game, despite having been outspoken in criticism of him on here.

you play your strongest team every time. Our stongest team has Charlie on the pitch - nuff said

Maybe im of the old school way of thinking that a player should want to play for the club. Im sure he will probably play tomorrow and bang in a hatrick and all will be well. But end of the day he has disrespected the club and let alot of people down.

I think we'd all LIKE to think that way. A number of us of a certain age can remember times when that was the case.

But how many STFC first teamers now were born within 100 miles of Swindon, or supported the club as a boy? Indeed, how many premier league current players were born in the same COUNTRY as the club they play for.

Its sadly a "rose tinted specs" kinda thing to expect players to share our loyalty to the club. they are employees, commodities in many respects (if they play for Chelsea or Man City especially) and they cant be expected to hold such chivalrous thoughts in their heads - no more than you or I would hesitate to ditch an employer if a rival company offered to double our wages for doing the same job.

We cant beef about someone who is patently too good to be considering dropping to the bottom tier of the professional game, to not want to take his chances and move on to somewhere that matches his ability. Especially when they are in a career that is painfully short and they have to make a lifetimes worth of income in a short space of time.

Charlie has disrespected the fans and the club. He could have had a quiet word, but no, he went to the press, over everyone's head, that is disrespectful. How many fans like him more because if this? I think you'll find he's lost many, many, many fans and why? Because he disrespected them...

The majority of fans loved Charlie, myself included, he is by far and away my favourite player for a very long time. His requesting a transfer makes me feel a bit cheated, like he never really gave a fuck. I can't be alone now in feeling a bit put out that love is not reciprocated and in fact we're nothing to him.

And with regard to Wilson disrespecting the fans by playing Pericard?! Grow up, and stop being pathetic.

I agree 100 %.

Everyone has accepted that Charlie will be leaving soon and rightly so. He's been fantastic for us and a real joy to watch. He was one of my favourite Town players in years until he went and pissed the majority of the Swindon fanbase off.

Handing in a transfer request just shows a total lack of respect for us fans who adore him and chant his name every week. You should have gave Simon Cox a ring Charlie. He could have gave you a few tips on progressing your career in the right manner.

I dont think he wanted out just to piss the fans off though. Yes he could of done it in a more dignified way but sometimes things get taken out of perspective just a little bit too much.

Edit: BTW i dont mean by you.

Like Wilson said, immaturity and lack of knowledge about the professional game. He's never had to deal with this pressure before.

Saying Charlie has "disrepected" us make this thread more like an episode of Jermey Kyle.

He did something stupid, it's calming down.  He's our best player, we need him to do what he's good at.

He has an agent who tells him what to do....this was done with the specific intention of expediting a move.

Austin could just have said no to the plan...

I think he has to play. Let's be honest he's our top scorer and without him our chances of winning are slim. This is a huge game make no mistake. We need a point at the very least here. I just have a feeling he's going to come out fired up and ready to prove a point to the fans. I hope so anyway.
