I know this amused SIppo in another thread, but thought it more appropriate to post Holloway's
after match quotes here.

Quality....

"It's an unbelievable turnaround to have their fans singing 'Premier League, you're having a laugh' at us," he added.

"Well I am having a laugh, I am loving every minute of it because my team has earned the right to be there.

"I don't think they should be quite so disrespectful, maybe they're a little bit jealous of the fact a little club like Blackpool can do it and Southampton have fallen from grace. But I'm sure they'll be back."

I did think that the Radio going on about Southampton beating Blackpool as a "historic cup upset" must hurt Southampton more than Blackpool.

That is quite a put down!

Its not disrespectful, its just a brain-dead boring chant that all sets of fans sing up and down the country.

I've lost interest....the nail firmly tapped in the coffin, if not fully driven down, when the FA allowed ManUre to opt out and go and play in Bladder's Mickey Mouse tournament.

The fact we've been terminally shit for years hasn't helped especially as we had a decent record for a club of our status....losing twice to Conference sides on the short watch of Andrew Fitton, also hasn't helped.

I think a lot of League 1 clubs are now in the FA Cup twighlight zone. In that we dont really need the money of the bigger gates, but no chance of winning it. Its a waste of time. Honestly, the JPT is more of a priority now.

Even the players dont seem interested in the big ties it could produce. I love Charlie Austin, but when he said straight after the Crawley 1st game on TV that it was a game 'we didnt need' I thought that said a lot. After all, we were out of the other 2 cups. Its sad to see the players want as few games as possible. It was a hard tie, a draw was a good result and we should have been grateful for a replay. As I said before I didnt go to the replay because Im sick of the club messing around with playing in our club colours, the red kit.

Better Championship teams do still have a chance of winning, as proven by Cardiff's FA Cup final appearance against Pompey, and for them there should still be a real attraction. If we can get promoted and get half way up Championship standard I might get some interest back.

It would have been interesting to see what sort of crowd a game v Derby on a Sat afternoon would have got, but for Crawley it's been switched to the Monday night graveyard slot.

I like the FA Cup, but don't quite get the point of having a League Cup as well. Scrap the League Cup, up the Prize Money for the FA Cup and give it the 4th Champions League spot and then we'll see how seriously everyone takes it. I don't want to see it turn into the Copa del Ray in Spain where literally nobody cares.

I was well up for it, but there seemed to be quite a few on here who thought it was a bit sad that anyone was excited about it. I think Derby would have brought 2500+, which would have seen a crowd of 8500?

Nemo, as Reg said all the damage was done at the turn of the century. Cast your mind back to 1999, one semi final was the Arsenal Man United, which went to a replay at Villa Park. And this game, the replay was probably THE most exciting club game I have ever seen on the TV as a nuetral. Bar none. Watched a replay of it the other day, and it still made my palms sweat, the noise of the crowd is incredible.

But that season Man Yoo won the treble, which I think took a bit away from the cup, because I dont think anyone thought that would ever happen, so the holy grail of a treble was gone. Then to add insult to injury Man United didnt defend the Cup to play in a farce in Brazil.

Bad timing, because it was the end of the old Wembley, the final had a new home and it didnt feel the same. And just the turning of the new century as well, i know it sounds stupid, but it just felt different.

As you say, the Champions League was the key. The FA had 1 chance to save their own competition. When the Champions League went to 2 clubs from the big leagues in 1998 (?) they could have given 1 place to the FA Cup winners. It made perfect sense as well, because then most of the time, both English representatives would have been Champions in the Champions League. I do think Uefa blocked that one a bit though.

Very sad.

Well as I get to some of the earlier rounds,  I still love it. You can't beat a good upset aka Stevenage.
