Parkin was just a legend. I remember when he turned down a move to Hull when he could have so easily have gone and then he scored a couple (I think) against them a few weeks later. It's a shame we never got promoted in 2004 as I think he'd have stayed a bit longer had we managed it.

Parkin was an absolutely hero and I'll always remember him fondly! Still dream of seeing him back in a Town shirt, although I fear a return would only be a disappointment...
Parkin back as Swindon would be the Schumacher F1 equivalent - (almost) everyone wants it but everyone knows he is past his best |

That team of Evans, Gurney, Ifil, Heywood, Duke, Igoe, Hewlett, Miglioranzi, Howard, Parkin, Fallon/Mooney is my favourite of all the years supporting Town (since '98).
What, better than Lucas, Amankwaah, Cuthbert, Greer, Sheehan, McGovern, Ferry, Douglas, Ward, Paynter, Austin? Agree though, Sam Parkin was an absolute legend here, and always seemed a decent chap. I'd probably still find a place in the squad for him now. |

Last season's side was better, surely? Still, that team of 2003/04 was just about the only (relative) highlight in an otherwise disastrous decade. Met SSP in a pub in Barnes last night You bugger. I was living in Putney while he was still on our books and never saw him out once. Sad, I know, but - yes - I did tend to look out for him. |

I remember after the last game he played for us he came into the cgh and thanked all the fans in there for supporting him and that he will always hold Swindon fans in the highest regard. He was a true gent.

Two things for me.
From sitting low in the DRS - seeing the fire, the madness in his eyes as he came sliding over after scoring the equaliser (?) against the Wendies on that great comeback night. At the top of his game, doing what he loved best, where he loved best.
His complete humility when interviewed on the radio after that Legends game thing. SSP - a legend - kicked the game off but all he wanted to talk about was his pride at sharing the pitch, his pitch, our pitch with other Swindon legends. He knew his stuff alright, he knew his place and he properly respected and appreciated it.

Remember him scoring at Blackpool............a friend had begged us not to mess about in the Town as he had to get home Saturday night...........we ended up spending the night there anyway because he ran on the pitch and grabbed Parkin,got nicked and wasn't let out till Sunday morning.
My favourite goal of his was Leeds away in the cup....great team goal with a brill finish.
