If that is so, why do they have Karlsruher SC on the back of their shirts?

Karlsruher SC is a German football club, based in Karlsruhe.

According to Wiki.

Because Karlsruher SC is correct, in much the same way as Hamburger SV is the correct full name of the football team also referred to as Hamburg.

Fulham didn't play Hamburger in the Europa League last season, and neither are we playing Karlsruher this evening. We are playing Karlsruher SC, or Karlsruhe, or KSC. My last KSC shirt (07/08 season I think) has Karlsruhe on the back.

I did wonder if it was something like that. Thanks for the explanation.
