Well done to the Evening Standard for bringing it to the attention of the general public thereby increasing the risk to safety posed by the loophole.

I like the people that jump on their brakes, then boot it once they've gone past one of those. I think people who don't understand what is meant by "average speed" deserve tickets. I will try this lane changing thing out tomorrow, because i despise those nazi cameras. (Apart from when conditions require them.)

What like motorways when everyone is going at high speed?

Like roadworks DRS. I wouldn't want to work on the side of the road with just a row of cones separating me from cars doing 70mph. I don't think they're justified when the road condition is fine and the area is not prone to congestion.

You've just linked to a story that's nearly 3 years old - published on Sept 13th 2007, to be precise.  Take a look at the dates on the comments at the bottom of the story.

You don't think they might have changed things in the meantime ?

I prefer to drive at inappropriate speeds risking the lives of those around me and the lives of the workforce who choose to work on the motorway to upkeep the surface so it's safe for me and my kids to drive on.

Perhaps if we all drove faster through roadworks it might encourage the lazy gits to get on with it and finish the job before they pop their clogs ?

Most areas where they are the lanes are too congested to be changing every few hundred yards.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure they wised up to the single lane issue and changed the law to catch people who switch lanes out.

Clarksons idea of driving though the 50mph average speed zone at 200mph, then stopping just before the end for a fag and cup of tea is the  best solution
