i'm sure no swindon fan holds charlie responsible for missing that chance.he has been a revelation for us,and is a major factor in making the play offs in the first place.

Definitely not, anywhere else and that was in the back of the net

What arriba said. Charlie has been immense for us. But we should get a lynch posse together to hunt down the Wembley groundsman like a dog

Well, a YTS kid with a pitchfork. Actually it's the gobshites who designed the bloody thing (and signed off on it) as London's premier corporate entertainment venue instead of being our national stadium who we should lynch.

Personally I don't count it as a miss.

The pitch should have been red-carded and us awarded a penalty.

Overhead some fella's talking about it on the coach, saying they just die sand to match the colour of the grass and then plug the gaps with it

they should build a brick wall around it to create the illusion of a pitch

There is only one person blaming Austin for the miss and that is Austin himself. Not sure I'd waste any time trying to convince him otherwise as he won't listen and will just use it as motivation next season. Though I would make sure he knows his contract isn't going to be cancelled and he won't have to go back to bricklaying.

Makes a refreshing change for a player to have the attitude he does.

To be fair I had a very restless sleepless night thinking about that bobble and what if.

I cant begin to image how badly he's taken it.

He really shouldnt take it badly, not his fault at all.

Without him, we probably wouldn't of even been there yesterday.

I think theres no doubt that we were running out of time to find a second striker this season. Paynter was struggling without a top quality partner. The Pericard signing in January probably would have been too late to make the play offs.

So to sign him from non league outside the transfer window and get 20 goals really was a football miracle!

As far as I'm concerned it was Austin that turned our season round from a top half finish to challenging for automatic, and here's another stat to back it up....

- Paynter played 1330 minutes in games which Austin played no part in, during which he scored 5 goals.
- Paynter played 2570 minutes in games which Austin played a part, during which he scored 24 goals.
- So Paynter scored (nearly) five times as many goals in only double the minutes when Austin played.

If that bobble happened to Rooney missing a sitter on an important qualifier, the outsourced company responsible for the pitch(as Wembley has no groundsman) would get lynched by the national press, but it's happened to a striker, who plays for little old Swindon...so it's one of those things.

Charlie, we don't blame you. We blame the dickheads at the FA, who will not employ a proper groundman, and let the pitch ground in BEFORE playing every event imaginable on it. The old Wembley pitch also had rugby and American football on it, but it didn't suffer the punishment it is now taking.
