So what would you suggest to get more atmosphere in a ground IE either Wembley or the CG
I don't I'm afraid. I do see where you're coming from, but I think a "singing section" would make it worse not better, by sealing in the situation we have now with regulations. I guess im just ranting because im pissed off and finding it hard stomach yesterdays defeat.
Think we're all there mate and I don't blame you. The cat's giving me a wide berth today!

i think safe standing would help but really it'll just be a "singing section" in all but name.
interesting that arriba was trying to start chants in the block next to me and i didn't hear it at all.

Safe standing is fine. Having a designated singing section is pathetic, it adds weight to the sofa fan's theory that they don't want to be disturbed whilst watching the match, which is why they sit in a non designated singing section.
You must be on a wind up if you can't see that.

Oh and to those saying "I'd rather have the 7/8000 passionate fans getting behind the team than the 32,000 sitting there quietly", get real. Look back over how many matchday threads and see the number of times people are complaining about the silence in the Arkells/DRS. We've got 3-4000 tops who will sing/back the team come what may, even backs against the wall, like at Charlton. If we'd made more of a go of it on the pitch yesterday, even the day-trippers would have joined in a bit more, but there was nothing. Totally flat. I think the 7/8,000 number might have been informed by the exception this season that was the Charlton home play off leg. Stood in the Town End (which was very loud for once). we were all looking at each other in amazement about the amount of sound coming from the Arkells (and the DRS for that matter). It wasn't just the noise from the happy clappy gizmos, but singing. I guess I was expecting a repeat of that yesterday, but no.

aside from the fact that a "singing area" is totally fucking bent, the problem it creates is that it segregates the fans, it creates a schism between 'proper' fans and 'plastic' fans who don't want to sing.
a safe standing area will do exactly the same.
personally i'm all for standing at football and couldn't really give a fuck whether people want to sing or not. it's obvious from experience that getting people who want to sing together creates a better atmosphere, spread them out thinly across 30,000 seats and you get nothing.
arriba - i don't know what you look like and i was too sober to kiss total strangers, sorry

it will to an extent I agree, but it won't be called a fucking "designated singing area"
it won't give plastic cunts the opportunity to say to people that might want to sit, and make noise "stop singing please this isn't a designated singing area"
world of difference.
If we ever get a designated singing area I might stop going to the county ground. if we got safe standing it would be a fantastic addition and would improve the matchday atmosphere immensley in my opinion.

We have a singing area. It's called the Town End or the adjacent part of the DRS.

Haven't been through the whole thread and its probably already been said but there were far too many people yesterday who were just there for a day out to see wembley and didn't give a flying fuck about cheering the lads on. They were more focused on moaning about people standing up.

don't get me wrong, i agree with you - i was just elaborating on what paul said. i think safe standing, particularly in a redeveloped town end, would not only create a great atmosphere again but would make us pioneers - something i think fitton et al would love to be. yesterday was a perfect example of what is wrong with modern football and why i could never get passionate about supporting a "big" team. my girlfriend enjoyed the novelty of going to wembley etc but she's only been to a handful of games before. i don't think you really appreciate a football day until you go to somewhere like doncaster on a tuesday night where 200 town fans created one of the best atmospheres i've seen.

ah right you're talking my language then.
Safe standing would be immense, not sure where the rules and regs are on it these days as its common over europe - but as you say I can imagine Fitton and co would be all over this idea if its a viable option for the CG redevelopment.
re tuesday night at doncaster etc, thats what football will always be about for me, the away day specials, and why my best ever footballing moments pretty much all happened away from the cg. with the valley last monday topping all of them!

Apologies for stating what has already been said but I feel I have to voice my thoughts....
After that night at Charlton all I have been thinking about was yesterday at Wembley. I had seen England play there a couple of times but to see my team at Wembley was just something else. They day started off in good spirits and seeing the hoards of Town fans up the M4 got the juices flowing. A couple of drinks around Wembley and a good sing song down by Tesco's and then onto the stadium.
From there it went downhill. Within 30 seconds of the kick off we were told to sit down by an elderly lady who was sat behind us, now I hate sitting at football but fair enough especially as there were kids with her. We were then subjected to being called "plastic cunts" by a delightful chap in the row infront, now we dont claim to be a "superfan" but we objected to his views and at HT moved to Block 125. From there we watched a rather inept performance which pretty much summed up my Wembley experience..............a let down and totally shite.
We had a good discussion in the car on the way back home, mainly suggesting that it might be better to have blocks within Wembley which are set aside/suggested for people to sing etc meaning that drunken chaps who like a bit of a sing song are not sat next to families with young kids who may not appreciate the "working class environment" of football. We found yesterday that many people were dotted about and couldnt generate an atmosphere.
What we must not forget that it was been a brilliant season. And at least we can give the JPT another shot next year, anyone for Oxford in the first round?

Support yesterday was abysmal.
Although anyone who went upper tier only has themselves to blame.
And unfortunately you cant get people to sing come on you reds, if you are playing white.
