Having links with Arsenal is never a bad thing. However, replacing a 19 year old from Middlesbrough with a 19 year from Arsenal? This offers the exact same risks.
I think I'd look for an older goalkeeper with more first team experience (which I appreciate they did with Almunia), like when Manchester City had this issue and brought in Marton Fulop (much to the RAGE of some people because they had the Faroe Islands international).

That would have definitely been the preference. But are there many decent, experienced goalkeepers warming the benches (or not even making them) of Prem/Champ/L1 clubs, that the clubs are willing to let go?

I shouldn't have bothered phrasing that as a question. If we've ended up with this Arsenal/Argentina kid then it sounds a bit more promising than the 'Boro lad, but clearly there aren't many other options otherwise we'd have got an old head (or pair of hands) in.

It's awkward time to need a goalkeeper as clubs are notoriously funny about letting them go these days.
Steve Harper, Stuart Taylor and Andy Marshall are 3rd choice veterans within the top flight off the top of the head but it's easier said than done.
