Is it illegal for the cyclists to be on the road then? Motorcyclists are 10 times worse.

Yeah, the reason being to give the cyclist a choice of whether to ride on the road or in the cycle lane.

I go through red lights though, if there's nothing around or no danger then I've no qualms about ignoring them. I like to think I'm intelligent enough to read the situation. I'm not going to kill someone at 10mph on my bicycle, and I do stop for them when necessary.

Square cyclists shout when you go through them, but I think its more jealousy than an integrity thing.

Cycle paths seriously are often littered with glass.

Glass on road usually gets smashed into dust by the cars, not on the paths. Cycle paths often have people on them also.

How much road tax does a cyclist pay for his bike?

Well in that case, perhaps they should not be allowed on the road and make them ride on the path?

It's this sort of arrogance from some cyclists that pisses me off. Why is it ok for every other road user to obey the Highway code but for you it's optional? And what's all this 'let's ride side by side for ages and have a chat' malarkey when you are out with your mates and there are cars waiting to pass? Take a large splash of puddle!

i cycle a bit and don't ride on the road unless i have to.We are pretty lucky in Swindon to have good cycle paths.
That's why i get fucked off with people not bothering to use them.
I take the point about glass(i'm always fixing punctures on the bikes in my house) but that's no excuse really for not using paths.
The gutter areas on the roads are worse than the paths i'd say.All the shit and debris is there yet the bikes use those areas to go along.

Well, they are clearly just inconsiderate dicks.

You get inconsiderate dicks using all sorts of transport

They've been trying to be more like truckers overtaking on a 7 mile long hill on a dual carriageway Wink

A recent study showed that drivers give more room to cyclists when there isn't a cycle lane as when there is one they tend to think that as long as they are outside the cycle lane then its fine.

I cycle to work and for recreation/training purposes and use a variety of roads and cyclepaths and use a mountain bike and road bike. Although you can get "puncture resistant" tyres I have always found you always get punctures regardless of the bike.

I also think that if you get a designated cycle path (i.e an old railway line) then the quality is a lot better than if the council has just put down some red/green tarmac on the side of the road, which inevitably gets covered in broken glass and the like.

As an aside I cycled the Barnstaple to Bideford "Atlantic coats express/tarka trail" last week and it was fabulous. A perfect example of how it should be done. Didn't see James May though.

Sounds good. Was that the setting for his toy train challenge?

As a matter of interest do you need a mountain bike to do it, or have they paved it somehow (seems a bit long to pave)

Yes it was the setting - and I watched it again when just to reminiss.

Its fully tarmacced along the whole 10 miles so any bike will do it and it has little cafes at Fremmington and Instow. You can also carry on down to Meeth, another 21 miles, but I don't know what the surface is like.  Devon seems to be pretty clued up witht he whole tarka trail/sustrans thing

I always buy jeans that are too long in the leg. Apart from when I was in India and I got them cut to fit. I find them either too long or too short and I hate jeans which are too short.
