I struggle with trackpads now, mind you I have been using a PC mouse since 1984, so go quite used to it now! but TBH my shoulder, elbow and wrist often hurt after a couple of hours work now.

I "want" to use a mouse, it's just a shame no manufacturer has yet to reasonably translate the gestures and functionality of an Apple trackpad into mouse form. It's quite frustrating.

How come providers can offer a fixed term contract but are allowed to break it anytime they like but you can’t drop them without incurring penalties.

You can drop them if they've raised the price by more than set out in their terms and conditions - BT for example have in their T&Cs that the price goes up by the rate of inflation each year. Usually negligible but obviously now ludicrous.

When they put up prices by more than that, you can break your contract and go elsewhere (or threaten to do so for a better deal). I've done that plenty of times, it's a ballache but generally you end up paying less than you were before, so clearly they're just banking on enough people not bothering.

2 year contracts are a fucking piss take.

And BTs new thing is that upgrade or change contract and you “need” a new router. I think that’s  £9.99 p&p for a start. And then if you don’t return the old router, it’s £50 please.

On upgrading I was told I had to return the router (same thing I’d been sent previously) and thought I’d binned it. Fortunately I found it in the shed, still brand new (containing a prepaid return bag).

Prior to finding it they’d sent a return bag, so sent the old returns bag back with an old heavy book in it. Scratched the new router to fuck, broke the feet off and threw them in the bin with the plug and sent it back within the other bag. I then refused delivery on the new router. Mwahahaha. That showed no one.

Outstanding pettiness Barry, bravo.

The provided routers are shite, imagine having to pay out £50 for crap like that.

Good work Barry!

My renewal is due. Can get Cirtyber provided FTTH, but I have a shared driveway so may not be easy. Then the Mrs wants to keep the landline (remember those) and keep the number.

No problem, I'll port it to VOIP... oh you can't without terminating your existing connection..

So looks like
   - order FTTH
   - see if they can fit it
   - pay for both FTTC and FTTH before porting old number out if FTTH is OK
   - reneg/move from plusnet if FTTC is  the only option

yay. Broadband.

There is definitely a habit up and down the country of drivers who seem to think that parking half on the pavement when parking illegally makes it less illegal. It's a baffling one, but it's very widespread. Is there some logic to it that I don't get?

pretty obvious.

you can't park fully on the road because it rightly pisses off pedestrians.

you can't park fully on the road because 'what if the emergency services need to get down there'

doing 50/50 can piss both sets off.

it's modern estates for you. pack em in and fuck the parking because everyone should be using the bus
