M5 N. Bound about two and a half hours ago and I find myself slowly inching up behind a ‘58 plated grubby Astra Estate with a small yellow flashing light being towed by an equally battered looking Range Rover with a piece of strapping doing 70mph in lane one. I thought that’s dangerous, a premonition that something could go wrong came over me, little did I know. I really couldn’t believe it, so once Lane two was clear I thought I’d make my move to over take. I was level with the strap which was no more that 2m when the cunt in the RR without warning suddenly veered into my Lane to avoid another car in front of him who was indicating to come of at WSM exit. Jesus, if I put anymore pressure on my peddle it would have gone through the floor pan. By luck the Astra fishtailed into the gap that I had created by braking for my life, then the RR started to fishtail too. I still can’t believe how lucky I was. When I pulled along side the RR this scruffy old codger in a flat cap with a roll up hanging off his bottom lip just gave me the thumbs up as if it was an everyday thing. If I didn’t know any better I’d say they were aggressive predatory freshwater fish types. Still a bit shaky TBH and I reckon that is in the top three close encounters I’ve had in my 40 years on the road.

Bloody hell. Given your job, that this is top three says a lot! Hope you're on the decompress with a drink or two now.

Indeed. Only told the Mrs half an hour ago after her badgering as to why I’m quiet, not had any tea and a bit mardy. So, now my near death experience (and it was, trust me) has settled down I’m having a Tassimo cappuccino with a large Benedictine before bed. Work tomorrow but will be in attendance.

This isn't aimed at you specifically LL, but as you mention it, I've never understood why people drink coffee (or even tea) before bed.

Coffee keeps you awake, not send you to sleep!

I think I read somewhere about not drinking caffeine after 2pm if you wanted to ensure good sleep. I had hot chocolate prior to bed last night which just meant I was up 3 or 4 times for a pat cash, really annoying!

Somehow, I've got three people on ignore, including me. Apologies to them. How do I reverse it?

Frightening !!!  But it’s been illegal to tow with a rope/strap for some time.  All towing has to be done with a rigid bar.   Bloke must be a right prick, but on a motorway ?? Jesus.

It used to tell you how many peole were "ignoring" you also. I've probably got about 90% of the forum doing as such. Irony being you might not be able to see this reply  Soapy Tit Wank

Bit of a shocker today. My blood pressure had been creeping up so visited the doc. She sent me off for tests - blood and urine.

Came back with a massive blood glucose levels - 327, should be below 150. Cholesterol very high, too.

Got to get my eyes tested now because of the glucose levels, kidneys and liver need scanning and, obviously, have to change diet massively. No alcohol either! Pills and insulin incoming!

The doc was scathing about us Brits. Never going for routine tests on a regular basis and only going for a check once there are symptoms. Got to agree. Most don’t want to be a bother at the GP’s surgery if they feel OK.

It cost me €115 for the tests. Money well spent.

Apologies if I come across a bit preachy

Think about it guys. Just because you feel fine doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on inside.
