I like Helsinki.  Why dont you understand it / allow it to mildly annoy you?

Maybe I didn't see it in it's best light (literally and figuratively). -25 to -30 all week, drab, dreary, not the warmest welcome....

Back there in a fortnight (with a Stockholm sortie in the middle) so maybe I'll see a different side to it.

finding a second hand car that isn't a heap of junk.

We found the wife's car on eBay. You have to wade through a whole load of shit, but there are some well looked after cars too.

Need to look in the right places. What are you after and budget?

I know what you mean but we have a couple of cars we are after rather than just turning up at a garage and picking one from the lot so its a just waiting for one to pop up.

I've been looking there too but always dubious buying private as there not warrany of guarantee, the moment you drive away it could break down 2 miles down the road and theres not much you can do. Atleast with a decent garage they'll sort it out for you. Theres pros and cons to both i guess.

There's some real gems out there if you take the time to look. I found my daughter a Corsa, owned by a bank clerk who took the bus to work. Second owner from new, the first was BSM for six months. It's now ten years old and still only done 30k miles.

If it has a full service history and receipts etc. you can't usually go wrong as long as you also give it a good look over.

And you'll pay a substantial premium for buying from a dealer/trader.

As Alan said, take your time and something will come up. We found an Impreza Wagon, 10 years old but only 70,000 miles and full service history. Last owner had owned the car for 5+ years. A bit tatty round the edges maybe but the engine is solid and it sailed through the MOT. All for a bargain £700.

There are so many cheap and decent used cars about. You might have to put a few miles in to get the right one but a genuine and decent private sale isn't hard to find.
A good car owner will have documented service history. If they don't have it look elsewhere.

A good look over is not allways enough, and you need to know what your looking for and also where. The plus side is that you can now look though a cars previous MOT's on gov.uk. Sometimes saves a wasted journey.

Neither did I until a few weeks ago. The site says it goes back 10 years but in most cases its only around 5 which is more than enough to gauge an idea on how well its been looked after.

People who slag off Nickelback etc (might have to bare with me)

I know they're shit. But it's become so cool to act like they're worse than malaria that people have just joined in. They're really not THAT offensively bad. How are they worse than Papa Roach or Blazing Squad?

Basically when anybody refers to Nickelback as the worst band ever or whatever you know then they buy into saying shit for other's approval, which is sad.

Not a fan, but that Rock Star song is quite good and catchy.

Music snobs in general piss me off. If I like it, I'll listen to it. Its a shame people feel such a desperate need to fit in, or appear trendy, that they follow like sheep.
