The references to him having "served his sentence" are misplaced. He hasn't. He's been released on license to serve the second half of it outside, under the supervision of the probation service.

Apart from that, whilst everyone deserves the right to be rehabilitated, I agree with the point that for various reasons there are certain positions that people convicted of certain crimes should never be able to take up when they are released. Rapists as professional footballers is certainly one of them. Wrong on far too may levels in my opinion, sends completely the wrong message and the day anyone signs him will be a sad day for football.

The fact that he believes he is innocent is also completely and utterly irrelevant, he's been convicted and the conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

I don't know the ins and outs of the Ched Evans case. I certainly would never be stupid enough to put myself in the position that he put himself in. However, the conviction was brought on the grounds that the girl was too drunk to consent. If that's the case, why didn't the other fella that has sex with her (Clayton Donaldson...?) get convicted of rape too?

Lumps, the fact is, there are differing severities of rape. He didn't violently drag her into a bush and rape her at knifepoint. He isn't a paedophile, he isn't a murderer. All he is, is someone who has had sex with a drunk girl. I dare say there are a few of us who have done the same. And if he truly believes he is innocent then why shouldn't he maintain it?

There is a huge difference between feeling you are innocent and the fact you are a convicted rapist.

Unfortunately for him the law doesn't differentiate between 'levels' of rape.

As far as the public is concerned he is just a rapist.

Saying that, if he can stand the dreadful abuse he will get if he returns to playing I don't think football, as an industry, should behave differently than any other business when it comes to employing him.

I have no idea whether or not he is guilty (although as he was convicted obviously the jury concluded he was and that is that), but the whole media frenzy that is getting underway means that the whole basis and truth of the case is getting lost anyway from both sides. There was a story in one of the papers this week which linked to this http://www.chedevans.com/ which is a site within which his family/supporters set out certain matters and the basis of their appeals - I have no idea how true any of it is and as its only one side its deserves a huge pinch of salt (I would emphasise that my linking to it is not promoting it or saying that I believe its content) but it does seem to suggest on a purely procedural level that some of the processes of the investigation and trial were a little peculiar.

Ultimately as it stands he was convicted by a group of his peers who will have heard considerably more evidence that you, I or I suspect most of the media have heard.

Incidentally on a similar basis http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/11166299/Jamie-Oliver-takes-on-paedophile-as-restaurant-apprentice.html I suspect that this would have been huge news if it had not been for the Ched Evans case taking all the headlines...

My problem is his claims of innocence. Part of doing the time is acknowledging your crime, showing remorse and trying to make some kind of amends - none of which he has done. Don't really understand how he could be released early as I thought all of that was a requirement.

Don't think there is any place for him in football until it is resolved.

Will the person who was raped have ever 'done their time'?

Yet another one for the 'Whats wrong with football' thread - large amounts of money lead to inflated egos and power trips, which lead to broken lives.

I present exhibit A in the "differing severites of rape" argument. This is far worse than what Ched Evans did. Far worse.

If he truly believes in his innocence then he shouldn't really do any of things you mentioned as that implies guilt.

Have to agree. If the bloke truly believes he is innocent, despite a jury deciding he's guilty, why not carry on his fight? Jury's have been wrong before.

Have to say I've not followed the case at all, so am applying my general view on judicial proceedings rather than on this case in particular.

Just seen a QPR/Liverpool one on Sky.

Any chance I can get a Swindon/Rochdale one for Tuesday?
