The BBC Football homepage. I don't understand the prominence women's football is being given by the BBC. They have tiny attendances and it just seems a bit try-hard and awkward.

That would be the public service remit. Deemed as being socially important rather than popular...the same reason they cover Scottish football outside of the top division, really. That said, the Paralympic coverage on C4 would have been easy to describe as "try hard and awkward" when they originally announced it but they did a fantastic job covering it and it got really decent ratings from what I remember.

Very true about the paralympics, but I suppose there's not really any competing comparison, beyond the obvious. Almost everyone knows men's game though, so that comparison probably means it's on a hiding to nothing. I certainly can't imagine it being viewed en masse beyond the homes of feminists and residents of Los Lesbos.

I've always been surprised at some of the attendances and viewing figures that women's football gets. We all know about the big crowds games in the 20's used to get but even recently big games (like cup finals) tend to get 25-30k. Back in 2005 when the UEFA Women's Championship was played here the opening game had about 30k at it and a TV audience of about 3m.

Watching some bloke get out of his car and opens the boot, as his wife comes out the supermarket with a big trolley full. He proceeds to watch her load the car up. How chivalrous

Reminds me of when Pressed steel used to turn out. Gypsy lane/Swindon rd was fun in the 70s around 4 oclock every other day. I say every other day because when it was quiet, they were on strike. On the subject of cyclists. Why are the professional types (wiggins wannabes) so reluctant to use cycle paths.? Akers way is a prime example.
DfT advice is that if you are riding at over 18mph it is better for your and other users safety to cycle on road rather than psychopath. Don't know what it's like down there but in Lancaster when you take into account the people walking 4 a breast, dogs on extending leads and broken glass the roads are probably safer on a road bike.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaat
I think he means people who live in Milton Keynes who brought their allegiance to an existing team (Chelsea, Arsenal etc) with them but are happy to go and watch Franchise while retaining their "main" loyalty as 1) They only ever watch their "main" team on Sky anyway 2) Franchise are their local side so they now feel they're proper football fans instead of being plastic armchair fans 3) They have no conception of what constitutes real football or indeed basic decency Shitehawks, the lot of them

"Everyone concentrates on where we came from 10 years ago. Not where we are." Ian Huntley says: "Everyone concentrates on my crime from years ago. Not where I am now. It's so unfair".

It being suggested that cyclists should ride on the pavement. This is illegal so no deal.
