Dryathlon is where you give up alcohol for the month of January but the money you would've spent on alcohol you donate to charity. There is no requirement to seek sponsorship. That isn't the point.

Except, the point is, you get sponsored with a 'golden ticket' so you can have a drink... so yes it is the point...

I'm considering a beer, fags and pizza 'athon'.
Who would like to donate to this worthy cause?

Did some work for somebody over the Christmas period. This included doing some work on boxing day, new years day and over the 'festive' weekend. I ended up with negative feedback for communication, deadlines and availability.
What a cunt.

I can understand that, that seems fair. That's not what I'm seeing people do though.

This will probably be unpopular, but I've seen a few instances of people trying to raise money for Charity by not drinking in January.
I know all fund raising is good, and I'm not complaining at the ends, but it strikes me as a little odd. I'd always thought 'self-challenge' fund raising was supposed to be involving things that are out of the ordinary or a physical challenge. Soon we'll have people trying to get money for dieting
I'll bung a bit of money at it as it's Cancer Research but I do agree. I'm not intending to drink in January, I usually have a bit of time off the sauce each year. I think it was last year or the year before I managed 40-odd consecutive days dry. It was very easy after the first couple of weeks. I wouldn't request any sponsorship mainly because I'd do it for me. A bit like not having sex for a length of time* *this is an intentional pun.

I had forgotten about this but when I was driving back to Luxembourg we had Radio 1 on (partially for traffic updates) and they were doing the chart of the year. I think we had the 'pleasure' of listening from 69 to about 50 odd and some of the stuff that they played was utter utter guff! I remember listening to Radio 1 about 10 years ago or so and they used to play some half decent music. The DJ fella, Mills kept gushing about the amount of amazing music in 2012, the guy must have ham sandwiches for ears, utter utter crap.

One of my mates writes for NME - was talking to him about this year in music as he had to do a 'review of the year' article. His (honest) response? "Fucking guff." Of course he has to bleed obsequiosness out of every orifice when writing the article...
