On the Tube, people are generally quite good at letting others off. You do always get the odd one who thinks they're above all that though. Seats tend to get filled before people stand near the doors.

Drives me mad the odd person who tries to push themselves on before everyone's off. I guess the seats get filled first in the tube as the layout means they're all accessible. London's the same as Oslo insomuch as people don't apologise to each other and only freaks look at or try to start conversations with other people!

You need to provide dictionary definitions for the 'terminology' you come out with.

"Gammon" = Ladygarden/ Vajayjay "Smashed" = Made love too. Simple. "

Strangers here don't interact at all. It's the same throughout most of Norway except further north where entire towns are related to one another. I guess politeness counts as interaction so that's banned too...

My brother in law lives in Sweden, and common courtesy is - according to him - pretty rare there as well. Very much every man for himself.
One of the things that makes London quite unusual, I think, is that even though it's meant to be an impersonal sort of place, too big for any community spirit etc., people still respect a queue and will stand back to let you off. In my experience, it's tourists who most often get it wrong on the Underground. And they'll get some withering looks when they step out of line!

I would have to agree with you Ardiles. I find on the Tube, people are generally quite courteous in letting you off. In Luxembourg, even though the number of people getting on and off the bus is much much less, people can't wait to push past people to ensure that they are first on the bus. I've stopped being so polite and utilising elbows.

People aren't actually rude though - nobody pushes to get on the train, they just stand around blocking the way. It really baffles me.
Staff in shops are more abrubt as well. I quite like that. I've always found the whole "have a nice day" thing grating and I don't want to talk to you whilst I pay for my fish and potatoes.
I'm thinking about starting a blog about why Norwegians are weird.

The older Estonians are generally a bit abrupt also. It's little things like holding the door open for people or something that don't seem to happen there, but i put that down to their troubled past.
most of the people under 25 have a degree, can speak english and have been abroad, experiencing the wonderfully polite world outside.
thanks fuck they haven't met Tans
