Before you criticise you're missing my point. Cordon the area off stops all the wannabe police officers getting near the crime area and potentially messing with any evidence.

Do you not think they cordoned it off initially then?

When the story broke and police divers were in the river there were many onlookers on the riverbank so I have no idea if it was cordoned off.

What. fucking. crime. scene. It was a 'simple' missing person case until way into the week after she went missing, now I don't know about down there but I reckon we get 4-5 appeals from Cumbria police on Facebook each day seeking help finding people who have gone missing (sadly seems to have got up a lot in the last 6-12 months), they ain't getting CSI Cumbria involved in all of them and Podcast Karen doesn't wade in either.

If it isn't a crime scene blame the fucking media then for exaggerating the story!

don't know if you saw yesterday's update but they said the women had issues with alcohol linked to coping with the menopause. They treated it as 'high risk' so the response was bigger and quicker than normal

They also said that they visited the family home a few weeks before she disappeared but offered no explanation as to why🤔

Because that doesn’t matter to you or me?
The family know, and the police know, why does anyone else need to know?

People’s god given right to know everything these days is baffling. Whether it’s to do with a missing person, or what Zav Austin has had for breakfast

You're right but of course the conspiracies will make their own story's up!

Yeah, it was the response of many to that which led to my rant, albeit I interpreted the 'high risk' being more in relation to a risk to herself hence the police possibly trying to find her quicker?

FWIW the first I heard of it up here was a few days after she went missing when Lancs plod appealed for help and a mates missus (who I think either knows her or at least knows of her) shared it on her Facebook feed, it really only grew into the big thing it has become after a fair few days

I understand that this story would and should be biggest new locally and in the county but I'm unsure as to why it has become such a media wankfest across the nation. So much so, the story is the top news headline daily on worldwide broadcasters like Sky News.

Whilst I can sympathise with the family, all those close to her and the police, I don't think it is a story that needs to be at the top of the public interest nationally (or internationally). Poor old Turkey and Syria, closing in on c50k people dead, thousands more missing has been shoved further down.

For all intents and purposes, this is a missing persons enquiry/investigation until the police gather evidence and facts deeming otherwise. As far as I can remember, most adults who go missing don't tend to be fully investigated unless third party activity is suspected. If a minor then of course legally there is a duty to investigate regardless of how the person might have gone missing. But I always thought as a legal adult, you were free to the right to disappear as it isn't a crime or offence?  Hmmm

'Adults over the age of 18 have the right to go missing unless they have been detained under the Mental Health Act, or are legally in the care of another person. Legally, will not be in any trouble for going missing unless you are wanted for a crime'

Which brings me back to why on earth this has become major ''breaking'' national and international news on an hourly and daily basis? The media are every bit as culpable in this and I'm glad the SIO poked a finger at them during her press conference. I'm pretty certain that whilst they are thankful for the public from all corners of the earth being so keen, I'm sure they'd prefer to just get on with and focus fully on their job, jobs they have been highly trained in rather than being told by everyone that they are shit and that the local neighbourhood watch somewhere in Kidderminster has the solution akin to fucking Hetty Wainthropp.

Btw, SdM had Eggs Benedict this morning. I should know, I made them for him  Soapy Tit Wank

I’d also like to know why so much media coverage given, especially here in the south west where a woman from Bristol has been missing since August and very little media coverage given.

Professional info- no dig at you or anyone.

Searching the home of a missing person is standard procedure. Looking for anything that may allow further enquiry lines to be identlfied.

Not sure what the reasons are, but see Madeline McCann v. Shannon Matthews for instance.
