I've ordered a superking divan bed set that's being delivered in a few days, to suddenly realise today that it's not going to fit up the stairs. FFS  Suicide

nearly did the same 4d. the Devan was fine as it was 2 halves, the mattress would have been a shit

the lady in the shop said very few houses take a super king... but we could get the mattresses as two halves to zip together .   ..

so that's what we did. and it's not as shit as it sounds

I've just realised the divan base looks like it comes in two halves   Embarrassed

The mattress should go up as there will be some give. It's 3000 pocket sprung and a foot thick. Will weigh a bit mind.

Most responsible furniture and bedding companies tend to offer a "Zip and Link" when ordering a 6ft (aka a Superking) mattress at POS. Yep the bases tend to come as a pair for nearly all divans bar 3ft/Single (unless requested) but usually people order a decent solid wood frame.

Two reasons for Zip and Link, it's much easier for delivery drivers and assistant to actually deliver it. Again, if using a decent company - they will take upstairs but from experience most 6ft-ers won't go upstairs (in most homes) easily without causing some damage to the metal frame in the mattress that makes it rigid. Pocket Sprung mattress are lovely but are also very susceptible to this type of damage (yes especially 6ft-ers).

The weight shouldn't be a huge issue as there are heavy mattresses than the pocket sprung type and  at least it's not a 9000. Is the top "tufted" or "pillow top" by any chance? If so this will help as is wont really by 1ft thick - will be more squishable on that side when getting it up (oo-er).

Couple of tips if taking it upstairs yourself:

Obvious - Keep it in the bag until you get it upstairs. As tempting as it is to take it out, you don't want at grubby, pulled or potentially torn brand new mattress. The bag will help with a bit of easing of friction so it's better left in it.

Get someone who is able to help you and really only two of you. A third can be helpful but any more and it's a case of "too many Chiefs".

If you really, really, really have to bend it then you can safely but you have to be quick about it. Tying it, in two places so it folds on the vertical line. You can add a third tie centrally if you wish but you have about 5mins from it the first tie to getting it upstairs. This will ensure you don't have any permanent damage. It's entirely your choice but can be the more easy option if done correctly.

Having stuff delivered - especially any bulky/heavy item can be quite stressful as there can often be many oversights from the customer (not enough room, no access, won't go upstairs etc) not previously thought of. I'm still a big believer that this should be in part the responsibility of Home Furnishing sales teams to ensure that what they sell the customer is what they need. Otherwise, you just end up with a bunch of returns and an unhappy customer in the long term (and no repeat business).

By the way, the above does come from spending a good number of Autumn & Winters delivering stupid 6ft 100kg+ (230lb) sized mattresses, over a sporadic period of around 15yrs. My back isn't fucked - yet!

Took a taxi home from Swindon station after getting back from Crawley  last weekend.
£11.90 for about 1.5 miles which was over a 60% increase from a couple of weeks before, even taking into account that it's more expensive on a Saturday evening.
Will walk it or hang around for a bus next time.

I live in Chipping Norton and local taxi firm tried to charge my other half 9 quid from one end of town to another. Its a mile. Would have walked if she wasnt alone in the dark.

It's an affordable official homage to an iconic collectable watch. I'd buy one if I could, but the stock is being purposefully made scarce.
