I use the BT service that stops withheld numbers, that did cut them all out for a while, but some have got round this by registering 0845 numbers, saying that i get 3 a week now instead of 6 a day before i used the BT stopper. What it needs is Govt action as they are a fucking pain.

I love them. They're my connection with the outside world. I always press 5 to speak to an operator. It makes me feel wanted.

I had one at work the other day. A girl who used to work there got in all sorts of trouble with her money so now we get loads of debt companies phoning using auto-dialers. I like pressing the button and getting through to an operator, then just mute them and listen to them going "hello...hello...hello...HELLO?!" down the phone. It amuses me.

Automated ones are tough to stop, most of them originatig abroad so not having to comply with Ofcom Regs. It's maybe time for everyone to take that fucking cruise and see how many the ship can handle, at least we'll all have got that rubbish mortgage deal, personal loan and credit card sorted before we go.

I always like to use the secret 7 option. Most call centres have this option for staff to get through to an operator straight away, but sometimes you get someone who clearly wan't expecting a call.
