So in an interview on the EFL Podcast group interview Jack Payne confirmed that Crawley offered him more money and Swindon had offered him more money than Charlton!. He moved for family reasons and t play in a higher league. Well done STFC in trying to keep him!

Interesting, and fits with the views of a lot of Charlton’s fan base, no wonder they are a bit shit if they cannot outbid L2 clubs.

Surely that can't be true about Payne?

Here’s what he said

‘ He revealed that Crawley Town offered more money than both Swindon Town and Charlton were able to give him. However the move was never really an option as at this point in his career he felt the desire to move up the leagues. Swindon also offered a higher contract than the Addicks in a surprise for such a huge club.

He stated that had Swindon been promoted he would have remained at the club but the chance to join Charlton was just too perfect for him.’

He’ll look back at it - as the only decent season he ever had…

Should of stayed Harry…

I don't piss about.  Wink

I s'pose wait to wee what he actually says, but from that summary, much as with Payne it suggests that the club perhaps didn't deserve some of the flack flung their way in  the summer.

He's on a three year deal up there so suppose he still has time for it to come good, possibly under a different manager when Johnson likley gets the chop (unless thing upturn quickly) in due course.

Be interesting to see what happens if it continues to be shite and the fans let him know, with his history of falling to bits when the fans get on his back.

Liked him when he was our player, but now think (as I would have done if we had come up against him) that he is a peculiar bloke and frankly a bit of a prick.

Nice summary! Plus he's getting a little old for his antics and needs to settle down.

That McKirdy headline reads bad but when you read the full quote, it isn't nearly. Basically said its a short career, you have to get on with ambitions and he assumed the club would want to cash in also (which was true).

On Payne though, if we were the middle offer and Charlton was the lowest and you're moving for family reasons, surely you'd go with Crawley the highest offer? Its not exactly far.

Sounds like bollocks to me. At least with McKirdy he is honest, even if it comes across harsh.
