I just thought the whole thing last night (didn't watch it - just the news) was utterly bizarre.

He's only another human being - and yet people who have never met him are wailing and weeping and prepared to travel halfway across the globe to stand and gawp at his coffin.

It's lost on me, I'm afraid. Huh?

Have to agree with that. Whilst it's obviously a very sad time for his nearest and dearest what I saw of the service I found at the very least cringeworthy. Wacko

Some of the stuff was very heartfelt but a good portion of it was self serving propaganda as expected. You don’t really harp on about being innocent before proven guilty at a memorial service. The use of song titles to describe MJ was quite cringe worthy. The equal rights guys ranting on and on about how he was a trailblazer for black people etc was bollocks. Sammy Davis Jr, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jordan, Bob Marley, Barry White etc… all did their part not just one person, it was more like an equal rights rally in parts which took away from the actual reason for the event.

Usher singing was heartfelt as he broke down during his song was Michael Jackson’s daughter. Berry Gordy was good as he actually told a story about MJ’s life as was Smokey Robinson and Magic Johnson. Brooke Shields was boring and rambled on a bit….. However, The welsh kid from Britain’s Got Talent has a very big career ahead of him IMO was the highlight of “the show” and that’s exactly what it was “a show” not a memorial IMO..

Jesus wept Gaz, can't you just pick a side of the fence and stick to it?

One minute you love it all, next you're shooting it down.

I caught a few minutes of it last night and my main thought was what a fucked up family.

And how sad and pathetic would you need to be to travel to the memorial service of someone you never knew?

If it was someone who had really made a difference, like Mother Theresa, Muhammed Ali, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, etc, fine. But this was a singer FFS! Albeit a very good one.

I looked at some of the freakish fans they interviewed on the box after his death and shook my head in disbelief, seriously fucking deluded the lot of them.

Loved the singing and some of the tributes but some of it was cringeworthy... as noted above, after seeing it over and over now it comes across more as a show than a memorial!

I don't just mean the service last night, I mean everything to do with Jacko over the last two weeks.

One minute you're all "fuck, what about my ticket money" the next it's "stop it with the sick jokes" and wanking over him on facebook.

I dont know whats worse Gaz and his rants or Sam seeming following Gaz around!!

At the end of the day - a person has lost his life and left behind a family and his children.

Ok, so he wasnt just any person. Just one of the biggest selling artists of all time with the biggest selling album of all time just ahead of 2nd place by a mere 64million copies.

Also, as far as I am aware he is the most decorated artist of all time.

His music for whatever reason played a part in many peoples lives. I'm loving the fact he's being played on all the radio stations all of the time. It makes a change from that lady gaga poke her face bollocks and that dizzie blokes bonkers.

I just hope, in 5, 10, 15 years time when someone says 'remember Michael Jackson' people will think 'yeah, the king of pop' and not an alleged child abuser.

R.I.P Mr. Jackson.

The reason for swapping sides of the fence etc part is one reason, my Mum, now laugh at me if you like, First thing I mentioned to my Mum(like on here) was ticket money, and she said “You said you used to like him”  in disgust really when she thought I was more concerned at money than his well being. I was a fan back in the day, grew up with his music like many here but he done nothing for 8 years aprt from court cases and weird things .

When I got my ticket I was ecstatic because it was “Michael Jackson”, sure it would never have been as good as 15-20 years ago but as I say it was still a legendary artist. My Mum then told me, “what about his kids?, I lost both my Mum and Dad (your grandparents) when I was 14, what about his kids, I had to do everything myself” so she sort of slapped some sense into me really because her grandparents were dead by time she was born. That was the reason for my change of heart really.
