My take on this is that (until this season) my very understanding better half lost me every other Saturday for nine months every year - even I'm not selfish enough to say "no we can't go to Italy this year, but how do you fancy an STFC tour in Austria?"  Sometimes you need to prioritise.  Supporting your club should never be a "I support them more than you" contest between fans.

They haven't got a social club at the Kassam.

How long have you had the OCD concerning obscure STFC pre season fixtures in out of the way places....for example did you go on the Hoddle/Gorman tour to Finland.

Lakes eh seen one and you've seen them all.

Which Kassam are you on about???!!!

No I did not go to Finland, nor Malta, nor Holland, nor Northern Ireland for those respective tours. In the 80s there was the prospect of Town playing in Indonesia which fell through!

Coincidentally I am planning a day trip to Venice on one of the rest days. Also within easy reach of the Town basecamp are the Italian towns of Verona and Brescia. Maybe you could combine the holiday?

I'll sum up my interest in attending friendlies with an analogy to record collecting. You've got all your favourite bands albums and you've played them to death (like attending League games), you've got all the singles and the memories that come with them (Cup games) and there are always the limited edition 12" singles (extra time & penalties) but you want something MORE, something a little outta the ordinary. Something like a bootleg recorded at an obscure venue which only a handfull of people have ever heard -that little piece of magic that has a special place in the hearts of the people who were there - THAT is a pre-season friendly in a far off land!

At what point do you make it a daily ritual to ask if people have heard the bootleg?
