Fabian Brandy wasn't it?

He's got 6 goals in just over 40 games at this level - we need a far better ratio than that.

he was fucking awful.
Its a shame Pilkington went to Uddersfield. Along with Delph the best I've seen this season and for £500k a bargain. I know he played on the wing but could easily play central or just move big Billy up further.

Although he doesnt seem to have scored many this season Andy Bishop has generally got alot of goals the last couple of seasons.

I'm not going to go as far as Gaz and to be honest im trying not to look past this season but replacing Simon Cox next season will be a huge ask.

....infact it'll probably be Barry Corr!

We are going to be in the market for a few strikers this summer yes?

Unless RAZAK makes the breakthrough before the season closes.

In fact I would quite like him to score the winner v Rovers.

A couple of people have mentioned Tom Craddock at Luton. I dont understand why such a promising youngster agreed a three year deal with club certain to be relegated, and since when do luton have £80000 to spend on a player. I wouldnt mind having a closer look at him.

Also, there is a kiddy, JAmes Norwood, who plays for Eastbourne Town who has had alot of big clubs sniffing, he would be dirt cheap and worth a trial, but obviously not an immediate solution.

At this moment in time, I'd take anyone to score the winner v the shirt batterers

You need to read the interview with fitton in Monday's matchday programme to find out the answers to a lot of unanswered questions on this thread...

Gazz, I have to disagree with you on two counts.

1. the board members do have money, but if you think they're going to thow any of it at the club, then you haven't been paying any attention. They want to get the club running on an even keel, not surviving on their own money.

2. If cox goes, we will have an excellent chance of doing very well next season. even if he goes for £1.5m, and after fitton takes his money back and reading take their sell on fee, that's still a lot of money to spend on players we haven't had for some years. cox cost £20ok, sam £50k, so why will we not buy decent players again? Have you not seen enough from Wilson's eye to not suggest he knows a good players when he sees one?

also bear in mind that there are going to be a lot of players out of ontract this summer, if we stay up and act early, and we already have transfer targets in mind, there's every chance we will have a very promising squad next year.

Good post Juddie, the board did make it clear that we would get the club that we could afford. Cox is gone - there is no doubt and giood luck to the fella. I'm more optimistic about next season than I am for the rest of this. Wilson should be able to get rid of a load of fucking dross we've been lumbered with. He'll also have had a full pre season and  other clubs of our stature will be in shit street.

it's not rocket science. Fitton doesn't want Cox to go just as any of us don't, but if clubs are looking at him, and people are talking about £1.5m at least, then he's not stupid. what would you rather, keep Cox and shop around for bargains, or sell him for the highest price and build a shit hot suqad under a manager who knows what he's doing?

The one thing everyone is forgetting here is whether or not cox himself wants to go. Maybe, just maybe, he doesn't.

Either way, we either keep cox and his goals, or we lose him and get a better team next year.

whatever happens, as long as we stay up, next season will be infinitely  better than this one IMO.

For Febian Brandy see Jo Kuffour. Skilful yes, but not what you need to get out of League One. There's a reason why he's on loan at Hereford...

I see a lot of him in the reserves for United and he is not strong/big enough.

The win-win situation for me would be to get 2M for Coxy before the end of June.

It'll be hopeless if he doesn't leave until the end of August as Wilson (assuming he's still here) will have little time to replace him/rebuild the squad.

I'd rather he stayed and we built a team around him, but I think I've just overdosed on Easter Eggs.....

Whilst I was away last week the Mirror ran a little gossip piece saying that Mandaric is going to ive Pearson £2m to take him to Leicester in the summer, did that get picked up locally?

Before it came out in the press, I posted about a week before that Cox was going to Leicester next season.
So the info I received was pretty good, now QPR have entered the arena, that might change things, Coxy would not have to up stumps for him and his family.

Don't think Coxy will go to a premier club, he has already stated he does not want to move to a bigger club just to keep the bench warm, same situation he had at Reading when they were in the Premier and he couldn't demand a regular squad place. If Reading do not go up this season, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they made a bid for him to return.

Cox pretty much said a couple weeks ago on Big league weekend 2, that he knows he can play at a higher level and wants to play at a higher level but its up to the 2 clubs to sort it out at the end of the season. Read into that what you will, but we knew that anyway. Best case is that he stays and see what kind of squad we have next season. if we are in or around the playoffs he may go up with us otherwise leave in January. Sadly I think he will be gone in the Summer its just a case of who to.

I don't buy programmes so won't know what is coming out..

1. the board members do have money, but if you think they're going to thow any of it at the club, then you haven't been paying any attention. They want to get the club running on an even keel, not surviving on their own money.
I haven't said anything about the board throwing money at the club, what I was referring to is that because we actually have a valuable assett (Cox) we are not skint. He will be sold on eventually anyway, if we were "cash strapped" as the article says we would be actively shopping Cox, which we are not.

If cox goes, we will have an excellent chance of doing very well next season.
We do have a great chance of doing well, but we also have a chance as well as being pants. Paynter has played a lot better under Wilson IMO, but is never going to be a 20-25 goal scorer. MOST teams that do well have a good 20 goal average a season striker, admittedly our problems stem deeper than that, Midfield, Defence, Goalkeeping etc. I really hope that we can go into next season with a totally new squad with fresh ideas. I hope that like Malpas though we don't hang around and have to re-sign half the tripe we have now just to fill spaces. I think our squad next year depends how quickly we get out the starting blocks as you state and start replacing the shit players from this season. We have seen numourous threads about who should come/go etc.. I dare say there will be a bit of money to spend as well once the squad is reduced. Not massive amounts. In regards to Fitton he did say if he sees someone who we could sell on in the future we would buy them... Holt anyone to replace Cox? Although Shrews will likely be asking for a silly pricetag.[/quote]
