A quick 12 second google search produced this: http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/economics/article5983250.ece

I presume that's it?

I see there's a comment on there:

Everyone if suffering, but the £1.2 billion regeneration plans have not been postponed, new cinema, shops and restaurants will start in the next few months. WH Smith have taken over the Woolworth distibution - it's not all doom and gloom and we have not reached the buffers. Swindon is still healthy

That will be Peter James, the Chief Executive of the New Swindon Company http://www.newswindon.co.uk/aboutUs/people.aspx?id=1

I guess he would talk us up  Grin  I'm not so sure about his optimism at the moment though...

Got to say that the whole article is a touch churlish and you get the sense that a lot of the stuff about the town could be applied to any of the large industrial places in the country.

As for the 'getting away from it all' line at the end. That's a load of shit considering we're battling relegation in division three for almost £25 a pop.

To be honest ever since I've running Swindon down as a place for years but since I've really gotten into STFC again (was a bit into it when I was younger but not as much as now) I do find the club provides me with something to get behind about Swindon. As a result I'm now visiting regularly as a season ticket holder, seeing my family and mates who still live there more often and probably also less likely to run the place down for some reason.

There are much nastier places than Swindon, which are suffering much more heavily from the recession. I think it's just easy to jump on Swindon's back because people don't see it as being famous for anything other than a roundabout!

I've always retained a fondness for Swindon, but then I've never lived there. I'd suggest anyone who slates it to hop on a train to Newport, and discover something to really despair about!

Me too. An unpopular notion in these times.
