Eruption - EVH
A prime example of quality guitar playing, but if it's not your taste it will annoy the hell out of you. Unfortunately a lot of hair metal Eddie Van Halen copycats were about in the 80s.

Got to have a bit of Led Zeppelin, probably one of the best rocks songs and solos ever- Solo at 5:55
And the late Randy Rhoads doing a live performance with solos at the start and around 3 mins. I actually think this is much better than the album version

I personally am a huge music fan, but am not at all into guitar solos.
Off the top of my head two that I do like are from 'This Is A Low' by Blur, and 'Paranoid Android' by Radiohead, mostly because they are discordant and just don't sound anything like guitar solos are supposed to.
'Ball and Biscuit' by White Stripes has an unwanky solo in it as well I suppose.

Exactly my thoughts when I saw this thread. From bands I'm familiar with I think Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine is very skilled altho still not that hugely into the solos... and some of the Smashing Pumpkins solos come to mind. Not sure whether I think the long feedback solo at the end of Drown is good or wanky. Bit of both maybe?

Not a massive fan of guitar solos, but the solo in this is dreamy
