... If you go in and see someone at the bank can you get one there and then (OK, so they have to post you the card but say 2-3 days then you could actually spend) or does it take longer?

I have no money. And my halls rent is due. I fear homelessness.

It's a really dangerous game using credit cards when you're a student, especially in your first year (I assume you're still in first year). I'm still paying all that shit off. Naturally you think you'll sort it out when you finish uni, but by then it's too late.

If you can't pay the rent now, you may struggle with the repayments and the interest will rape you, unlike your interest free overdraft.

When does you student loan come in? Is it possible to get an advance from your parents and make something up about buying loads of books?

End of April next loan cos of the wanky laste Easter.

And I've already spent the parents rescue money twice over (one for "books" and one for "cricket tour" which I am actually going on but not paid).

Hmmm...

Getting a credit card was the worst mistake I ever made.

Open a bank account (or several) with a nice size overdraft?

Get a part time job  Cheesy

I suppose you could get a credit card and make sure you pay it off when the loan comes in. You won't keep on top of your repayments or interest otherwise.

I'd advise opening another student account with tasty interest free overdraft, thats how a few of my mates got round financial issues for a bit. Then they had to work a little bit to gradually pay it off at weekends/between terms.

Dave, paying for everyday expences (this includes rent) on a credit card is a very bad move.

Beg mum and dad to get you out of a hole, one last time, and think about where you're pissing your money away..

Credit Cards take 7-10 days before you can start using them anyway.
