reads like a list of wimpy excuses to me: its acceptable because its the army! its not racist its un pc! its fine because they are risking their lives! when you start making excuses you are also admitting to the problem. |

I'm not making excuses, because I don't see the problem. Behaviour and language is quite often modified depending on who you are with. What's the big deal? When I was in the Army we had blokes who were nicknamed: Scouse, Paddy, Taff, Ali and Chalky. They didn't find it offensive, nor was it intended as derogaratory or racist. Some people need to lighten up ffs. |

I have to agree Steve.....nicknames done in the right context are definate terms of endearment, I personally think its a fucking huge mountain made out of a tiny molehill....the anti royal NOTW strikes again for the sake of publicity and selling papers.

Would you be saying the same if say Bush had used those words...of course these words are used the world over,but when your royalty,or a president you have certain responsabilities.....for instance if the Swindon FC captain was playing an Asian team in a friendly you wouldnt want or expect him to use the term Paki or *racial hatred* in his team talk and if he did i could guarantee he wouldnt be captain for long....because certain lobs i.e maybe the future king of England comes with certain responsabilities....you cant compare you saying it Herthab or jjedmunds to someone like Prince Harry.

I'd agree Leefer, if he said it at a Royal Function, or a Press Conference. But he didn't, he said the remarks with people he thought were friends and colleagues. Would he have made those remarks if he knew some back stabbing bastard was going to flog the videos to a third rate rag? I feel sorry for him, he can't trust anyone now. |

I agree....like you say The french hate it when you call them Frogs but its mainly said in a friendly way....but my way of thinking is that with certain factions looking for any excuse to blow us to kingdom come people in high places arnt usually the people who get blown up its innocent people on buses going to work.....because believe me this video is probably already on route to some training camp in Pakistan to be used as a nice motivater for people looking for any excuse to Bomb us.I dont really feel sorry for him though its obvous from the video hes being prompted to be all Armyish(good word) and being three years ago he was very young.And lets not forget sinse then hes been to Afghanistan and other countrys doing hard work with the kids and such.

The abbreviation 'Brit' is not something I've ever heard as an insult, however 'Paki' has frequently been used, not as nomenclature but as ammunition, it therefore has a history whether itwas meant in this manner or not. If the Yanks were saying 'Oi you cunting limey' then it would be a bit different. |

The sooner they learn there place is in front of the barrel of a rifle the better. Harry is only using words the majority of people use. Packi, ragheads all used everyday by millions in the uk. The only difference is that most people don't class themselves as racist but they are they just pretend not to be.

If it was said by you or me in the context of being a soldier and in front of those you said it against then fair enogh. If you take exception then take their heads off. In the context of it being 3rd in line to the throne after all the birth to job education they have been given then itys just plain fucking dumb. He's either a bog standard soldier who isn't a royal or he's a royal full stop. He behaves like one or the other - he can't be both.
I would have said he's living up to his heritage but I'm not sure Hewitt is a racist. Maybe its an argument for nurture against nature.

I'm not sure the use of prejudicial language alone should condemn a person to being a racist. If someone said "that paki cunt" or something that bad, then it would certainly indicate a person hating that race.
What was said was very un-pc but it wasn't really full blown racism. If it was full blown racism then it means anyone who has made comments about gays at football is homophobic. Besides, if you want to hear proper un-pc remarks you should have been on the minibus on the way back from Orient when we drove past Chinatown.
