RIP Chic, one of the first players I saw play for Swindon. 75 is no age and dementia is a horrible disease.

My favourite Chic Bâtes memory is of the 1979 League cup run - he scored a late winner away to Wimbledon  in front of us in the away end - a crumbing terrace - at the old Pluogh Lanr ground. What a great night that was.
He was a committed old style centre forward.
Had a reasonable coaching career as I recall too.
RIP Chic

I can remember standing at the back of the open terrace looking down at the Schweppes factory.

Literally just finished working the uK tour with this particular Pope!  Frankly I feel like Im dead;  It wasnt an easy tour.

As someone who went to see them on that tour I'm intrigued as to why it wasn't easy. Spill the beans!

Oh and seeing them perform their ritual on Easter Sunday, just hours before the pope died. Coincidence, or collusion? Our father, who art in hell.....

Absolutely a legend is/was Chico.

The man had the biggest chest on any professional footballer I have ever seen and a good goalscorer too, a great servant to the club on the pitch and on the playing staff.

RIP big man.

Chic was a big part of the later Macari years as assistant manager and took charge a couple of times when Lou was off scouting for players (or maybe horse racing).

Before Ossie came in during the summer of 89, Chic had started pre-season and did all the Macari style fitness work. That blended with Ossie's 'Just play, play, play boys' was a magic recipe for one of our greatest teams.

I loved watching Cheers on Channel 4 back in the day, one of the best shows ever. RIP George (Norm).

I can not find the clip anywhere but they are having a seance in Cheers & they all hold hands - so Norm can’t drink lift his beer so someone puts a straw in it so he can continue drinking his beer.

As they are leaving the bar after the seance I think it’s Cliff who ask Norm if he ‘convinced’ after the seance and he replies something along the lines of ‘yeah, I’m convinced -  from now on I’m drinking beer through a straw’
