From the point of view of those who didnt go the radio commentary wasnt very descriptive.

Fitton was co-commentating so Ed was mainly asking him questions.

The commentary kind of went along the likes of

Peacock scores
half time
penalty, no its been given outside the box?!
penalty, for nothing
Smith scores
They score
We sound nervy
Full time

Its was bloody good to have Mr. Fitton on there and to hear what he had to say about things, the ground, the training pitch & Danny Wilson but they really didnt commentate much on the match.

What a great day. Good to see the feel good factor back at STFC. We set off expecting more of the same but with news of Wilson etc we were soon in the mood. And we couldn't have started better. What a goal from Peacock. Set the tone really.

Should have had a penalty before we did. Think the linesman/ref thought they got it wrong (which they did because Cox was clearly fouled in the box) so just gave a random pen for nothing. It was ace. In it goes and it's 2-0. We made hard work of it and had to hold out but it was what was really needed. Thought JPM was really good today. At times it was almost like we didn't need Macca (yes he was that good on the left) and Kanyuka had a very good game. The players were up for it (clearly ready to impress Wilson) and we deserved the win. Orient were very poor. All in all what a difference 6 days makes! Top stuff. Roll on 2009.

I pretty much agree with all of that!

A good day out, but bloody cold!  LO's ground is weird, and very cold.  The food was rank, and they use a block of flats as their corner flags, very novel I thought.  One of the flats even has Grant Mitchell living in them!

On the flip side to that DV i obviously missed Fitton's "commentary" what were the main highlights?

There are speaking to the council about a training ground but didnt mention anything about the actual ground.

He addressed the 'so and so will have to work with Byrne and Williams' issue. Its never been stated that the new manager would HAVE to work with those 2. Fittion said Wilson wont be bringing anyone with him yet. He will assess the coaches like the players over the first month and then decided on what changes he wants to make.

When asked about money for players in January, Fitton just said that he personally thinks the squad is good enough and under achieving so doesnt need any additions, again though Wilson will come in and make those judgements.

Some moron text in saying Wilson was the cheap option etc etc Fitton said he didnt know what he was talking about. Said Wilson ticked all the boxes but obviously only came into their mind frame and short list the other week when he left Hartlepool.

Fitton mentioned 40% as in, in his opinion for a manager to have been successful as a club he generally needs to have won 40% of his games. Wilsons over all career record is 39.94%

Fitton has no interest in horses but memebers of the board do.

He asked about quid for a kid and the lack of atmosphere. He said they had already tried some family promotions and he felt the best atmosphere of the season was against Portsmouth and said their fans were good because they had a drum and the guy with the chimes. He said to improve the Town End he'd buy a drum!

He used to watch Newcastle as a youngster but wasnt really he fans, he was the only person in St. James Park that didnt care if their team won or lost!

He interviewed Wilson on tuesday and they agreed terms late afternoon Christmas Eve. Wilson has till the end of this season then another 2 seasons on his contract, although by all accounts Fitton seemed to imply without directly saying that it hadnt been signed as of yet.

When talking about our players, he mentioned that JPM was a good player when he was rattled and he hopes the new manager will rattle him every week, or something like that. I cant remember what word Fitton used but he was basically saying JPM is a good player when he can be arsed.

He also said he liked Blair Sturrock as a footballer because he was intelligent, had good movement and worked the channels well.

Thats it off the top of my head.

Well JPM looked at last as if he could be arsed and played bloody well-if only he'd put in that amount of effort all season he might be a bit more popular.Sturrock -what can I say?Never really rated him but today he weren't far off being MOM-just behind Kanyuka for me.Timlin is a far better option as captain in my book.Peacock and Nalis did well but faded in the last 15.I think they all deserved to keep their place for Brighton

Sounds like players want new contracts and are out to impress.

Lets hope Wilson watches a few videos first.

I think JPM has probably been one of our better players since Malpas left. Certainly been much better than he was when Malpas was here.

A player who didnt want to play for the manager, imo.

Top fucking day!

Support was fantastic, didn't hear any negative, miserable bollocks at all (A goal after 43 seconds and the appointment of a manager probably helped)

We need to push on from this, starting against Brighton on Sunday.

Oooh Danny Wilson, used to manage shitty but he's alright now! (First sung in The Coach & Horses, Leytonstone. By me)

Great day out.........except for the posts put on here advising of 'match day parking' ..........it doesnt fucking exist!!!   I was driving around the ground like whacky races!!!

Mitchell on the BBQ was a quality moment that we all remember for many a year!!

Town showed some passion for once......players fighting for places.

All played well except for maybe Nalis (where was he??).

Very happy xmas so far and actually looking forward to Brighton on Sunday.

Fucking great day out. Thanks to Luci for Arranging and Steve ofcourse for driving. Our fans were in fine voice today and no doubt the appointment of a manager as well as the early goal helped. We looked very good at times. Cox seems to be lacking in confidence. A goal Sunday will fix that. Went through a similar spell last season if I remember correctly. Brez looked good and went back to basic goalkeeping, "catching the ball" JP McGovern looked fantatsic and clearly the bollocking from Byrne and the appointment of a new manager had the players fired up. Great to see Budgie get a standing ovation at the end and the chants of "THERES ONLY ONE DAVID BYRNE" at the end, he has put up with a lot of shit but stuck with it. What a great send off for him as caretaker.
