ok, bit random, but I've had my cooker a while and it wasn't until I was round me mums the other month that I noticed her cooker got up to 200 degs in 5ish minutes....mine takes half hour  Huh?

any know owt about cookers??

ok, there is a little more to it like its about 4-5 years old but is made by 'Stoves' and I paid around £450 for it....it randomly turns itself on and off (yes I know you're now thinking cut your losses and go get a new one but pride/funds are currently getting in the way). there is a separate grill and that I've not used as it has never heated up properly either.....

why didn't i get it looked at when I first noticed the probs  Roll Eyes

i've phoned grace electrical and some other places but they were as much use as.....my cooker  Doh

Sounds fucked mate.  My old cooker took about 20 minutes to get up to 200*C, but I've not used my new one yet so can't comment.

If the grill has never got hot, and it turns itself on and off then really I reckon it's a definate scrap job. Are you sure you're operating it right? If so then I'd just get a new one.  For £450 you'd expect a fairly decent one, though. I'm guessing there's no warranty or anything?

450 for a cooker is a fair bit...it should last you a long time. I've had mine over 20 years, every so often it needs new elements or something, but you can buy them at Grace and whack them....after all a cooker is little more than an iron box that heats up.

As Reg says, Ovens don't tend to be super complicated. If it is heating up then your elements probably ok. It's more likely to be the thermosaty thing being fucked and getting the temperature wrong so it doesn't know to keep heating up. Is it a fan oven? The fan might have blown up which could be fucking things up. The door seal could be fucked, or the switch on the door which turns the oven off when it's open could be fucked.

I'm not an expert. Just guessing from my limited experience of trying to get fucked student house ovens working.

I think the other half is on the blink too. She should definitely have noticed this sooner.
