Did you know The swastika is a symbol thats  been used for over 3000 years? it was actually meant to mean good luck.  so for 3000 years, the swastika meant life and good luck. But because of the Nazis it now basically means death and hate.

Random but true

I thought the Swastika the gerries used was the other way round from the "good luck version.

I think it's been used in lots of religions and stuff both ways round.

Not that it really matters. If I wandered around smearing shit on people then I'd probably still get in trouble even if I managed to prove it was a friendly greeting in 500,000BC

The Nazi version of the swastika (hakenkreuze) is an inverted version of the ancient swastika symbol which was a sun/fertility symbol used in many Indic religions. But as Ben said whatever the origins these days, whichever way round, it's irrevocably associated with the Nazis.

I had to go to Penang in Malaysia this week.

Around the Island are various buildings with Red Swastikas all over the place, with a sign saying "The red swastika society". Being in a country that is so religiously orientated I found it a tad odd (And a little disturbing), and so I went all googly and found that it was some sort of charity organisation. I also found that the swastika goes way way way back and has been used by loads of cultures as religious and/or decorative symbols.

So there.
