I want to see England play South Ossetia or somewhere else random.

Dont they have that world cup for nations that arent affiliated to FIFA?

Jamie Carragher's a kj of the highest order.  That radio clip of him offering out the talksport presenter is priceless, he sounded like a very stupid man that day.

On a serious note though they cant win can they. When fans say they dont care and a player comes out saying its rubbish etc the fans still get on their backs saying they dont believe them.

When a player comes out confirming what everyone thinks he is a wanker

I work with 3 English chaps and we where talking about England today, and the general consencus is that we just can't be arsed.

If it was Swindon playing then I'd stay up for it (I'll be listening in tonight, 1.45 am kick off for me), but England.... MEH!

I have more important things to do at that time, such as sleeping.

I think what he says is fair enough.  From a fan's point of view, a growing number of us are all saying the same thing.  When I see England play, I see (with a few exceptions) a collection of self-obsessed, overpaid primadonnas whose lives are so far removed from those of the general population that the player/fan bond has been broken.

When I see Capello discussing Rio Ferdinand or Ashley Cole or even Beckham, I find myself thinking 'Fine, but what's that got to do with me?'  There's no connection there.

So if the magic is fading for the fans, I'm not surprised at all that it is for the players as well.

Compare and contrast with your average England rugby player.  There is some commercialisation there as well, but rugby players will never have the same earning power...and I think there has to be a connection.

It helps that the majority of the Rugby team are capable of stringing a couple of sentances together as well.

I'd of thought offering to chin a presenter from talksport, with the exceptions of Danny K and H&K of course, is an entirely rational position to adopt.

I caught a couple of the fuckers talking about this stuff Carraghers been saying in the last couple of days and having the brassneck to criticise him for being deliberately controversial just to publicise his book. Errrrr? Pot -----Kettle-------Black. This is talksport were talking about here. The home of the entirely manufactured argument about fuck all. Home of Adrian "Rangers should play in the Premier League to stamp out the horrors of sectarian hooliganism in Scottish football" Durham (Where the FUCK did that one come from? Has there been some string of sectarian murders in Glasgow that I've missed or what? Otherwise, seeing as that debate was yesterrday and coincided with the final winding up of the IRA Army Council I think Adrian might have missed the fucking boat a little).

But if the players played with the passion and pride an England shirt should deserve, would we feel the way we do?  If England were a team to be proud of I think the nation would get behind them.

Are the people of Spain feeling disconnected from the national team as we do now they have won the Euros. Surely the Spanish league is nearly as affluent as the Prem, and the gap between the haves and have nots in Spain is is bigger than here (based on EU development grants it gets granted!),
