You've all got to stay in tomorrow night though!

These GG threads have been so much fun I've been thinking about any other old school BBC games we could play. Unfortunately the tinterwebs are a bit lacking on disk images of the educational stuff, and Granny's Garden really is the ultimate 80's-mid 90's school game anyway.

There's a good one called Mickey's Magic Mixture or something, bit of a spoof/rip-off of George's Marvellous Medicine. It's in several parts like GG, but they're or a bit more linear. It still has some of the illogical madness that serves such things so well.

There's a couple more I've got vague memories of, but I have no idea what they were called. There's one I remember playing at school which involved some sort of dragon or something and an island, I don't remember much though as I was in Year 2. I never had a copy of that one at home which is why my memory is so bad. I grew up playing Granny's Garden until my BBC died, so that's why I know what's going on.

There's another one which I've only got vague memories of. involved a password in a rainbow, and a phone number or something which was 4444. I think the password might have been Muffin. But that's all I remember. Didn't play that at school, got it on a disk somewhere. I think most of my BBC disks are lost though, even if it did have the name of it written on it.

I'll ask about the latter two on the stairwaytohell forums at some point. Some dude on their just found me the canal locks game that me and JFW could remember. God it's shit.

Oh yeah, a couple more spring to mind.

There's Suburban Fox, which is a fox simulation. I remember playing it in Year 4 and found it again fairly recently. There's some fairly quick controller bits, so you'd have to put some trust in my ninja keyboard abilities. The over-arcing general decisions are more important though. Could work out fun, although I'm not sure how we'd go about it.

There's the game tie in for classic Look and Read serial, Geordie Racer. It's pretty simplistic though. I played through it this morning. I have a vague memory of it at school, but I think we played the dragon islandy thingy game more. It was fun, but a bit short and easy.

There's some semi-graphical more adult aimed adventures about on the beeb, not sure which ones are good though. Most of them end up suckering you into badly parsed guess the verb text adventure style problems, with so many ways of dying it makes GG look like kiddie play (which I suppose it is). Nobody ever really did the fun, can't really die, text adventure style game. The very forgiving, you can't get your self stuck or die style adventure didn't really come about until the LucasArts point and click adventures half a decade to whole one later.
