Yeah, the amount of people who ask my opinions on films, I haven't seen half of them. I prefer a good book nowadays.

In twenty-three and a half years, I have somehow managed to avoid seeing any Bond film. This wasn't a good start, sadly. Was Casino Royale any good?

Its much better than QoS but overally as a pureist I didnt like it. Infact I dont like the 'reboot' of the series at all.

As ben said you want to watch Golfinger...or any of the earlier ones....

I'm just about to watch Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

I'll report back tomorrow to tell you it was too long but was still reasonable yet not spectacular viewing Smiley

If you didn't like it, then Casino Royale may be more up your street.  I would suggest avoiding all other Bond movies, they are shit.  Casino Royale was the only one I have ever liked, mainly because it's not like a Bond movie.

I'll give Casino Royale a go at some point, as well as some of the other Bond films, because I can fully appreciate that the latest ones aren't quite of the same ilk as the pre-blonde Bond.

I agree with The Live and Let Die suggestion, Roger Moore's first and finest. Bit different from your average bond film too, more battling drug imports than crazy man steals nukes. Haven't seen it for years though and don't really remember if the plot makes much sense.

Most the Connery ones are fairly safe pretty good entertainment, not sure why DaVe doesn't like Diamond are Forever, although all I remember about it is that his fake family motto is "The World is Not Enough". Goldfinger is definitely the highlight.

Tucked in there is On Her Majesty's Secret Service which is definitely worth a watch. It's almost brilliant, but it just keeps falling short. The end always gets me though.

I've got a soft spot for The Spy Who Loved Me, mainly because it was one of the ones I had taped off the telly (along with Live and Let Die) growing up. I'm not sure I'd go as far as actually recommending it though. I love the music which plays when the sea station rises out of the water, I think they use it in Moonraker too.

Anyhoo, that's enough.

All the Connery ones are very good. Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball and You Only Live Twice is the best run of films in the series, easily.

Of course the family motto thing is from On Her Majesty's Secret Service but you knew that really didnt you Ben.

Goldfinger is my favourite as well.

Its a good film and I'm never quite sure if having Lazenby as lead helps it or ruins it. It follows the book almost word for word and is the only one Pete Hunt directed. I think if Connery had been in it, the action would have seemed better but I dont think I could have bought Connerys Bond falling in love and getting married.

Lazenby does deliver in the last scene though. He gets it perfect.

I dont reckon it would be. Alot of the older ones are only 1 hour 45 ish but the newer ones run closer to 2 hours 15. Probably averages out at 2 hours per film. If you can stay awake for 44 hours and do nothing else you might have a chance. Have watched them all in a week though.

Easy for a man of fB's calibre.

Some of the writers at Empire magazine did it for an article a year or so ago... Hard life eh.
