It's a pretty good film, and Day-Lewis is class as always.

The Rocker was harmless enough, you'll either hate it or find it okay.

It's simply an easy vehicle for Rainn Wilson. It is more younger audience friendly than I hoped - other than that it's pretty much what I expected.

6/10.

I thought DDL basically did a hammy rerun of bill the butcher. It's not bad but not in the same class as No Country For Old men, which it beat for a lot of the oscars.

Good film. Very underrated IMO, but a very interesting insight.

Anyone else seen The Machinist and if so what did you think of it?

I’ve never seen a film quite that quite sets me on edge as it did.  Not the sort of squeamishness you sometimes get with a decent horror or thriller but a real jittery paranoia, although that may well have been the effects of last weekend in the Dam.

Christian Bale is a sickening sight at that weight.  Some of the scenes in the mirror when you can see how much his collar bone is protruding and spine is disturbing when you imagine how much weight he had to lose for the role.   Certainly I’d imagine it as life threatening and couldn’t imagine getting to that sort of weight.

Story wise it’s a grim old ride all the way through and not one for the depressed or those courting.  It’s an original script although I did feel it was dragging through the middle a bit and does end a little flatter than I felt all of that tension was leading to but in many ways it was quite apt the way it did end. 7.5/10
